Someone from this company knocked on my mothers door last year claiming to be working in my area and was offering free roof inspections. This was actually the 3rd or 4th roofer to knock on our door. My mother told them that someone else had looked at the roof and said it was totaled but she didn’t believe them and wanted a second opinion. They went onto the roof, came down and said they could for sure get her a new roof paid for by her insurance company if she would sign a paper. She asked them a series of questions regarding who they were and these were their responses. My mom: How long have you guys been in business? The sales Rep: Many years mam. You can find that info on our website. My mom: Where are you located? The sales Rep: We have an office on 7th street in Fort Worth My Mom: Are you an accredited company and are you licensed, insured and bonded? The sales Rep: Yes we are. 100%. And we will work directly with your insurance company to get as much money as possible. It should not cost you any money out of pocket. My mother then asked me what I thought (I was on the phone listening the entire time) I told her to just hold off for now until I could get home and think about. She then tells the sales rep that but he insists that she sign an agreement allowing him to get the claim started so that he could meet the adjuster. It took her approx 20 minutes to get the sales rep to leave the property. He was very pushy and obviously reciving some type of commission for his services.
Once I returned home I completely forgot about the entire incident until I just saw on the news the other night that a roofer from the DFW area had been sentenced to prison and fined $260,000 for ripping off homeowners out of all their insurance money. Seeing that, I decided to look up the company that had left their info before to see if it was them. After 2 hours of research I was able to determine that Texas Honesty Roofing LLC was no where to be found at their listed address on 7th street. That turned out to be a shopping center with no roofing company renting any space out of it. Their phone number was traced to a women’s name with an address history that ranges from Illinois to south Texas to DFW. They are not accredited members of the Better Business Bureau and after a search of licensed contractors in DFW determined they were also not a licensed company. Let’s recap all of the lies and red flags so far;
• No real business number
•No real website (Facebook is not a website)
•Business phone is registered to a different name than the owner of the company
• No office address (advertises fake office address)
•No license (said flat out that they were licensed)
•Only in business for 1 to 2 years (told us had been in business for years) •Uses door knockers to sell jobs
•wants to handle our insurance claim for us
After a call to the Better Business Bureau we were assured that they are not alone. They said their are literally hundreds upon hundreds of DIS-Honest roofing companies just like them, knocking on doors and paying for ads hoping to cash in on all the homeowners insurance claims money. However, there is a bright light at the end..The Better Business Bureau did put us in contact with a real roofing company. I met with them personally and the difference was night and day. I filed my own insurance claim and 1 week later my insurance company deposited all of my insurance money straight into "my” bank account. I got a beautiful new upgraded roof 1 week after that and even had money left over and sitting safely in my account when it was all done. Texas Honesty Roofing? Yea right. Just another insurance scammer that was hoping to keep all my insurance money. Be careful who you trust. Not every company is who they say they are. It only took me literally 3 minutes online to fact check them and find out this company was not telling the truth. Google saves the day again.
