Dan bruce at terrebonne domestic water district is a scammer! my grandfather, who i was very close with, died in november of 2014. I was left with the difficult task of dealing with the probate of his estate. I called dan bruce to cancel service to his empty house. He told me i was required by law to keep the water on until the probate was finished. I would come to find later that was a lie. I was terribly distraught and had never had to do a probate so i didn't know dan bruce was scamming me. So, month after month i continued to pay a water bill on an empty house with zero water being used. The bills started around $27 a month but increased on a regular basis finally topping out at $33.50...Which he also said was required even though no water was actually being used. Then, as if that wasn't enough, he would send "post card" style bills...Which take weeks to arrive here in texas. I would quickly write a check and put it back in the mail within 24 hours...But usually didn't make it in time for their short payment window. Meaning i would then get charged an extra $7-10 "late fee". I asked to pay on-line or over the phone but was denied. Eventually, the estate probate was closed & house sold. So, i called 5/2/2017 to cancel service and get my final total.
I specifically requested the full amount with the understanding that my payment would make me up-to-date and never see another bill. Then, 3 months later i get a bill for a "past due" amount of $22.33. I called to find out what the issue was...Left a message that was never returned...Assumed it was a mistake & went on with my life. Now, 8 months after, i've received a bill for $44.33 with the threat to pay immediately or be sent to collections! dan bruce denies all of this. Says i didn't even call to cancel until 5/8/2017 which put me into a new billing cycle. But the check was written on the 2nd!
This scam has cost me hundreds. I called the city & state to complain about him and they told me there was no such law about having to keep water on in an unoccupied house...Probate or not! dan bruce scammed me. He is a heartless money grubbing bottom feeder who preys on unsuspecting grieving women. I am reporting this fraudulent behavior to the police, better business bureau, city & state fraud devisions, yelp, Yscam.com, craigslist fraud alert, facebook...And on & on. Despicable people like dan bruce must be stopped. If terrebonne domestic water district is defrauding me...They are most certainly defrauding others!
