Technical Career Institute College of Technology Reviews

Tci College closed with no legally required warning in September of last year and discharged all employees, including myself.I was a professor. It then declared bankruptcy. We were not paid for much of the work done including. contractual severence pay, vacation pay, sick pay banked and many had money missing from 401k. Money was taken for union dues by employer and kept.Previously TCi cut medical coverage for months without telling us in violation of law. Many students had money paid by them kept after closing. Despite phony Bankruptcy the main owners should pay us. Many of the hundreds of employees and students are suffering. Tci owners have money. The press reported that they recently made a contract to sell their lease for sixty million.A main owner of shares has long been Comvest, an investment fund with billions in assets.Philip Getter, chairman of board ,is wealthy,Since fraud and law violations exist, piercing corporate veils should be possible.According to union estimates employers owe us several million.

When I entered TCI they promised me and my fellows Friends that after we were done with our Associates Degree they will help us to get a job, and nothing was true. They make us to sign loans that, at that time we didn't care because we were expecting a steady income and nothing. They never call us for a job fair or to see what happens to us after. I think that they should provide us with a loan relief or a free associates . And that New York City should investigate this type of organizations that only want money and nothing else from their students.

I attended The TCI college for far too long, My issues with them ranged from administrative disorganization to files and documents lost and misplaced. I also experienced bullying tactics that would pressure and intimidate me into taking classes.

The last time they pressured me into taking a class I knew I couldn't take, was about 5 years ago the financial administrator pressured me into taking the extra class or I wouldn't qualify to get any funds or loan disbursed to top it off the class was for an accounting major, it was a business mathematics class. I told the admissions office my major was geared towards a Digital Media Arts Degree and GED. I told them the class was too difficult. I was still forced to take it and told if I didn't take the class I would not qualify for the loan disbursement. I had already started my classes and wanted to cancel one class the business math accounting class before I could get penalized and charged, I was in good timing to cancel and still was told I couldn't,they had already received the tuition funds. They refused to cancel the class or my classes even before the penalty time.

This wasn't the first time I had experienced issues with the admissions department, Before this incident, I had enrolled in classes before and was even given a schedule with all my classes to end up in mid-semester being told my funds weren't received and couldn't continue my classes. The worst part was I was still charged a full semester! after they had told me I couldn't attend classes cause the funds weren't received. They also kept adding classes additional class like ESL classes and science and Literature classes I didn't need. Every time I asked for exams to opt me out of these classes the requests were always refused. My loan from Fed Stafford was misused and abused due to admin staffing mistakes in this college. Loan disbursements were done while I wasn't attending and during a time when I had to withdraw early before the penalty time.

The college uses tactics to give students loads of unnecessary classes to overwhelm their Federal loan funds and get the max out of their government loans.

They also intimidate students into taking classes they might not need or are not based towards their degree, to get the student enrolled in the semester in order for them to receive their fed Stafford funds. They also refused to tell me or give me any information on how many credits I was going to be able to transfer to the new college I was transferring to . After years of feeling lost and in limbo with this college that I had ended up paying also thousands out of pocket after they had abused my fed Stafford funds; I was finally able to transfer in 2015. At this point, they still wouldn't hand me over my transcript. Almost 3 months of calls and emails from my current college and myself to get them to send the transcript report of my credits. They refused to call me back or responded to my calls.

They refused to ever - acknowledge mistakes or admit to over charges to my Fed Stafford funds also a private loan was made that I didn't approve and was never given an explanation or any help in Identifying who the lender was. To make matters worst the loan was sold! I had to contact Edu.gov to contact and track the loan.

Finally years later I found a really good college that didn't give me classes I didn't need, and really prepared me for my major. Now I am able to recognize a reputable college that's honest versus one who is out for just their profit not for the student's interest.

Finally graduating from my current college.

I really want to inform students cause I don't want any young individual like I was,to be taken advantage of $26,000 in debt from this college that gave me nothing but loads of classes I could have taken exams to opt out. They refuse to give opt out exams and add classes on top of classes prolonging your time and depleting your government education funds. Please stay away from this fraudulent private college.

I "graduated" TCI in 2012, Fall and I have yet to receive this degree I've taken out loans for. I'm not residing in South Dakota and every chance I get I go to TCI and ask about my degree. So far I've given my new address 14 times to them and counting. I've spoken to a plethera of people who are dealing with the same issues.

The first day I enrolled, I found it very odd that they had me already sitting down with finacial aid and getting me to take out as much many as possible from any family that I could get a signature from. They never actually teach you the skills you need to actually get the degree or any way to receive a job afterwards. I took the Billing and Coding examination and received a certification in the mail. Yet, I applied to earn credits towards that certification, no one would hire someone from TCI. I'm not even exaggerating here, that is what I was told once they saw my resume and saw I "graduated" from TCI AND could not produce a degree. This is insanity to me, because last time I went to the school the 12th time, I saw a lot of students in and out of there. I honestly wanted to yell out "Get away while you still can!" So no job, almost 40,000 in debt, from now even a 4 year school. No job, and living in NYC. I moved to Vermillion, SD for USD Fine Art, and I am still paying for TCI debt with NO Degree. This is the most outrageous scam I have every seen in my life.

The academic advisors are less than that, they're more like secretaries. I spent 3hours waiting for my "advisor" only to find out she had quit and every one was just seeing how long I would wait. Seriously.
