I needed to get a sales tax permit from the State of California. These guys landed first in the search engine rankings, and they appeared to be from the State of California, so I went thru their sign-up, handing them all kinds of Personally Identifiable Information [PII] and agreed to pay them $198.00.
A few words of explanation... many government agencies in 2017 use totally legitimate subcontractors for the routine work of government. Famously, pet licensing and traffic citation payment processing are often subcontracted out, etc. So the appearance of a non-government URL is not an automatic give-away. But I'm still personally embarassed I fell for this crap, since I usually don't.
When I clicked PAY, the response screen said I'd receive my document in 30 days, not immediately online, as I assumed I would. I checked the company, and they have no physical address or phone listed, and no way to contact them aside from a web response form. [continued below]....
So I applied and my payment did not go through at first, so I messages them and got a reply ASAP. However they send me the link to make the payment again and it went through. So a few days passed and nothing happened, i’m waitin for my certificates in the mail.
Then about 3 days after I got an email saying... My Name You have indicated the First Date of Taxable Sales for your business to be 12/1/2019. If this is correct, we would be unable to register your business for a resale certificate at this time because the date is more than 90 days in the future.
Please advise, Julie I then responded as in what should my next step be. No one reached out to me. I’ve been sending them countless emails and still no respond. I did mention that I will take legal actions if I don’t get a respond and nothing happened.
I need my money back don’t nobody have 198 to throw around these days. That’s terrible man.
