The Tahiti Mana Dance School offers Polynesian dance classes both in-person on Oahu and also online. To extend my dance skills, I joined the school and participated in lessons online from my home in Georgia. I had a relationship with one of the males (Polynesian) who participated in Tahiti Mana classes in person. When I was trying to end this relationship, he filed a court claim that I engaged in domestic abuse against him. His claim was denied, and I sued to obtain reimbursement for my court costs. When the owners of Tahiti Mana, Nalini and Manarii Gauthier learned of the court claims, they sided with the male student they knew personally without investigating and realizing the unfairness of his claims against me for domestic abuse.
On April 18, 2022, Nalini Gauthier wrote me: "My husband and I talked this over and after thinking about it over the weekend, we feel that since you have a court case against Isi, who to us has been nothing but the most kind, respectful, and generous person to us and our dance family and has never shown any questionable behavior. It’s hard to allow someone to attend our classes who wishes to put a court case against him to cause him harm in his life." Ms. Gauthier told me that she was canceling my subscription. I believe that the Gauthiers wrongly concluded that I was to blame based on my race and sex. I believe I was discriminated against.
On September 6, 2022, Hawaii Civil Right Commission made a Charge of Public Accommodations Discrimination for violation of Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 489 (Charge Number PA-O-1028, and Tahiti Mana LLC refused mediation with the Mediation Center of the Pacific. On December 27, 2022, I emailed Ms. Gauthier to personally ask for mediation and to be allowed to take classes again knowing that she would be starting a new course at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and online on January 10, 2022, and I was again denied. I believe I continue to be discriminated against. I would not receommend taking classes from Tahitia Mana LLC or their class at University of Hawaii at Manoa.
