My husband avoided hitting a deer on the road, And hit a tree head on. The truck ended up on shoulder of road on the wide grass area where most hunters park while hunting..We just brought this truck and paid cash so we did not have full coverage insurance only held liability. He also fractured his hand in 3 places. When he got out of the truck he walked to the near by houses knocking on doors for use of thier phone , and ended up seeing a Hammonton Township New Jersey Police car and flagged them down.
The officers asked what happened he explained and then they asked him if her was hurt he showed them his Extremely swollen hand and asked them for a ride home because the walk would have been 5 or 6 miles away in the same town. The officers said they cannot drive him home, But asked him for his keys to the truck, My husband told the officers he was having it towed to our home and had to tell them that 3 times before he felt they heard him...as he handed the keys to the officer they told him they would take care of the truck and file a report for him to submit to insurance. My husband proceeded to walk home and decided to knock on another door to ask for use of a phone and or a ride. This household offered to drive him home.
upon his arrival home called me his wife, As I returned home I called the Hammonton NJ Police department to ask where is our truck. They said to come in and they will assist us further, So My Husband and I went to the Police Department on our way to the hospitol for his hand. As We arrived they told me they towed it to the impound lot, I asked WHY? because he told me he told them he was having it towed to our home, I asked was he drinking and driving? (because he doesnt drink anymore and I was curious if he returned to drinking..) and vehicals are towed to impound if there is illegal activity... The officer then asked my husband if he was drinking and my husband said no. The officer then said because this is my town I will not have anyone driving my roads endagering my children and my family members.. The officer then again asked if he was drinking and again my husband said no. the officer also said he could lose his job for this if he was drinking.
I then started to stressfully complain over our situation and the fact we just took a loan for 10 thousand dollors to buy the truck cash to avoid full coverage insurance, and by no means would we be able to contuinue working with no ability of replacing the truck. We now will have to sell the house before in ends up in forclosure, as My car is needing replacing too and now we never will be able to save money with my husband not able to drive to work, and medical bills for the hand we knew had to be broke..No Health insurance.,ect.,..
The officer then told us if we come back in the morning and he sees my husband was not drunk he will release the truck as thou this never happened, and motioned he would rip the paper of this report up and he will take care of us.
Well we went back the next morning, now the officer was not there and the lady in the office helped us and gave us the release report and told us where the truck was, IT WAS at an Impound Lot. and they charged us $465.27 and would not allow me to get an item out of it I needed for work, They only would allow us to see the truck. as the owner of truck master took us to the yard to see the truck I mentioned to my husband we were being treated as if we killed someone with the truck ( Not being allowed to get an item out of it!) the owner then turned around and told us we could not go together to see the truck only ONE of us could because he was mad about my comment to my husband, SO I had to go ALONE with this man to see if this truck was damaged to the point we would not want to tow it!!!!
I had to pay that amount just to be able to retreive my belongings, The Impound lot Truck Masters In Hammonton NJ kept asking for our title because we thought the truck was totaled... I then called the flat bed to arrive before paying because I wasnt going to let Truck Masters Own it! So after paying the bill I then was able to go inside the truck to get my work stuff and noticed the truck was with the radio on! and the radio was on the entire night I guess, SO I decided to start it and it actually started up, so I proceeded to see if it would drive and it was DRIVABLE! So I drove it home!!! WHy did the cops tow it when we had our own roadside assistance with PepBoys, I was going to tow it to a Pep Boys to get a new radiator and then onto the new hood Grill Bumper... Plus we have tow options in the family as well a flat bed from my nephew.
