I went to Dr. Swartz for a routine root canal. I was in extreme pain during the procedure, and I have a high pain tolerance. I was "numbed" but I kept telling him I could feel everything. At one point I was sobbing, breathing heavily, and sweating with high heart rate. Dr. Swartz looked confused and said "you can feel that?"
After three trips to the office, my root canal was "completed." It was not done properly -- only 1.5 roots were removed and filled instead of 2 -- and a basic X ray would have shown that. Dr. Swartz either did not take x rays after the procedure or did not show them to me. He did, however, happily take over $1,200 of my money for the procedure.
Within just two weeks I was back in severe pain, tooth sensitive to everything and throbbing. I had to carry a prescription painkiller around just to get by. I went to my regular dentist who promptly took x rays and asked me "who did this root canal?" It was VERY clearly only half done, even I could see it, with half a root left untouched (and the nerves up there still extremely inflamed and infected). I went to a different endodontist for a second opinion, he also took x rays and said the root canal was obviously improperly done, and any basic x ray would have shown that.
Because of the pain during that proccedure, I had to be completely medicated during subsequent dental and endodontist procedures, and had to spend well over $2000 getting the tooth re-treated and fixed. I was in pain for months over this. I bolted at the sound of drills or construction from the trauma of the experience. I wrote Dr. Swartz a letter, certified mail return receipt. He got the letter. He never contacted me. I called his office, and his lovely assistant told me a reply was on its way. That was the last I heard of him. Four months of pain, 9 visits to dentists and endodontists, and over $5,000 to deal with this -- something that would have been easily fixed during the second visit had he just exercised basic care.
