I enrolled in Chesapeake Surebridge Insurance during open enrollment in 2016 after losing my job. The sole purpose of enrolling in the policy was so that I would not have to go without medical insurance as I was between jobs. I am 46 years old and wanted to be able to maintain my regular appointments without interruption and have insurance in the event of an emergency. I found them on the Maryland Marketplace and linked up with an agent named Keith Moore out of Maryland. After discussing options, we enrolled me in the plan. I was very specific about what I wanted and he was very clear about what this plan covered and hospitalization was part of that coverage.

I commenced to make payments for the next year and in March of 2018 I was hospitalized and called to confirm covereage, only to be told that my plan was an Accidental Supplemental Plan that was only good if I got hurt in an accident on the job. This did not make any sense to me because I don't work a job where that would be an issue (I am an accountant). I called their Customer Care line from the hospital and they informed me that they would only refund 2 months of my insurance premium (although I have paid on it over a year.) I have tried on several occasions to gain clarification from the agent, Keith Moore and he tells me that the mistake was not on his part and that he needs to go back and "research" my plan and why we choose that plan. THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO REASON FOR US TO CHOOSE THAT PLAN.

Seeking a refund, the customer service agent informed me that they could not refund more than 2 months without me doing an appeal. I did paperwork for an appeal only to be denied. I cancelled my policy in April, however they backdated my cancellation date to March 8, which helps me NOT AT ALL as I was hospitalized on March 24. I was very clear when I cancelled that I did not want my insurance backdated and requested a letter stating coverage during that time. They never issued my letter, and backdated my policy to a time weeks before I was hospitalized. They have continued to say that my hospitalization had to be more than 24 hours....it was 4 days. They keep saying that I could not have any pre-existing conditions....I didn't. Mr. Keith Moore represents the middle man between Chesapeake Surebridge, but neither party is owning their part in this and in the meantime I have paid more than $3000.00 for an insurance plan that I would have "never" used according to them.

I would like to be credited for all of the months of the plan that I have paid for. In addition, I want to make others aware that this company is not ethical and does not own up to it's mistake and misleading information. As well I want to warn others that Mr. Keith Moore choses to prey on unassuming consumers who are in desperate need of health care. I am now stuck with $15,000 of medical bills from a 4 day hospital stay for a major menstrual cycle that led to me needing a blood transfusion. I have no way of seeking assistance with these medical bills because although I had insurance....the kind of insurance I had, is not applicable. They keep asking me why I didn't file the claim, because "you told me I wasn't covered." That's a good reason not to file one.

Accident Insurance

3 years ago we purchased Accidental Ins. from our agent, Keith Gleason, knowing full well what we were purchasing and what it would cover.

Hoping we would never need it but for that "just in case" factor. In Sept. my husband had a logging accident that put him in the hospital and out of work. A call to Keith and I had the necessary claim forms within the hour, filed the claim with needed paperwork and in less than 30 days our claim was processed and we were paid just what I had estimated we would be getting. I had no problems whatsoever with this company as I fully understood what I was purchasing and what it would cover.

They called me. I was looking for health insurance online. They said that they worked for the healthcare Marketplace in Nevada. Lie. They auto signed for me before I could read the documents which sold me a Chesapeake policy not Healthcare of Nevada policy. It is a policy that does not cover the issues I specified also another lie. I feel violated I moved to Las Vegas area from Minnesota where my healthcare was free. I have encountered nothing but sharks out there in trying to get insurance outside obamacare which is insanely expensive. I don't know what makes Nevada different but I should be on MA since I am a disabled widow who's son also died. There is a special place in hell for people who do this kind of thing. I am collecting every shred on information on them until I get them shut down completely. They are theive's and liars. Do not have anything to do with this company.

Same story as the others

I filled out on of those online forms for health insurance because my insurance was expiring at the end of the month. I got a call from an agent who promised to sell me a Blue Cross HMO and when I agreed he bundled in some Surebridge Supplemental Plans. Yes, I should have looked closer. This seems to be the modus operandi, enrolling candidates in ACA plans from the Healthcare Exchange and then slipping in supplemental plans under the radar. The price of my major medical turned out to be higher than the quote, which I didn't get told until 3 days after the fact. The agent said his boss would adjust the cost, I agreed not to cancel as my son was sick. The bill for the major medical plan came due at the end of the month, separately from the Supplemental plans. It hadn't been adjusted, but I paid it cover my son's visit to the pediatrician. Early the next month I got an email from Surebridge stating my supplemental plans were in their grace period. I had never gotten an invoice from Surebridge or been able to access my account online. Surebridgeinsurance.com didn't recognize the policy numbers. I ended up emailing Surebridge and asking to cancel. I only wanted to cancel the supplemental plans and keep the dental. Surebridge ended up cancelled all three plans. I had to go out and buy dental from another firm.

I still have the Blue Cross HMO, the price was never adjusted. I complained to my agent's boss who replied by praising Surebridge and remarking that "even Jesus" has bad reviews online. Guess I won't be getting any help from him. The agent reached out to me a month-and-a-half after Surebridge's cancellation, He told me I should have reached out to him, but you shouldn't have to reach out to your agent just to be able to pay your bill or get online access. I'm done. That ship has sailed. Reading other online reviews I see I got off easy compared to how others have been scammed and screwed. Stay away from Surebridge and Chesapeake. Not worth the gross incompetence.

Received a call from an insurance agent who told me he was representing a national health insurance company, and could he get my info so he could provide me with a quote. I gave him my info, and requested a PPO policy with dental and vision coverage. He said he'd get right back to me, and called me back with a $0 deductible policy for a very reasonable price ($510..42/ mo)! But when I questioned him for more details, he said "it would basically take a six week course!". So, I asked to see the details in writing, at which point, he directed me to surebridge.com. There I found out he was actually trying to sell me supplemental insurance (which has exclusions for pre-existing conditions that he knew I had), and was not a PPO Health Plan. I'm so glad I checked it out before taking the plunge. I don't think I could've afforded this mistake. He was at least partially honest, AFTER his initial deciet! Buyer beware!!!
