I traveled to Findlay Ohio to complete some dives at Gilboa Quarry and becuase it was last minute had to book at the "Super 8" aka Red Roof Inn, aka Red Inn Findlay. We (my coworker and I) arrived at the RED INN FINDLAY a little after midnight and immediatly noticed that it looked nothing like the photograph on the booking.com page. There was a "drive thru" check in lane that was coned off and that should have been our first clue to just sleep in the car. I walked to the office to check in and was met by a man who looked like he had just woken up and barely spoke English (or made no effort to talk). I got my keys and went to head to the room. The desk clerk only pointed in the general direction of the room and said "over there". We had to count doors to figure out which room we were in because NONE of the doors were labeled. After finding our room we parked and unloaded our bags. I unlocked the door and immediatly was met the sound of a large dog running toward my general direction barking and growling. I slammed my door shut just as the dog bounced off the next room overs door and began scratching at and barking trying to get out. We were able to get in to the room and immediately noticed that it smelled very strongly of cigarettes despite being a smoke free room. The carpet was very dirty, sticky and had stains everywhere. We checked the beds and noticed that all of the bedding was badly stained and sticky. Not having anywhere else to stay we made a quick run to WALMART down the road and bought sheets to sleep on. When we got back the dog next door continued barking and growling all night and was pacing or running back and forth in the room. The toilet ran all night long and there was a large hole in the ceiling with plaster falling from it all over the floor. We were able to get maybe 3-4 hrs sleep before having to be up at the dive site. As soon as we were done diving we went back, got our stuff out of the room and checked out. We were lucky enough to find a room in another local hotel. When I checked out, the new manager on duty apologized up and down and advised me that I would be refunded for the cost of the second night and advised that she would contact the owners regarding my concerns. I NEVER heard from the owner of the hotel UNTIL I left a negative review for the hotel on the booking.com website. The offer: A 50% off stay at the SAME motel next time I'm "in town". Needless to say I won't be back "in town" and sure as hell won't be staying at that dump ever again. I did contact WYNDHAM RESORTS who were more than accomodating in fixing the OWNER'S problem and they laughed when they read the "resolution" offered by the "owner". I WILL stay at WYNDHAM RESORTS in the future and believe that this particular "hotel" is simply the one bad apple.
