Both of my parents were recently interred at Sunset Hills in Apple Valley, California. They had a plot and other burial services that were paid for in advance. When we were planning my stepfather’s services in November 2015, Sunset Hills charged my mother for items that we never received. Specifically, they billed us for a video montage that they never delivered.
My mother shortly passed away in July 2016. During the planning stages, Sunset Hills was trying to charge me for embalming services. However, my mother was cremated, so these charges were unfounded. The charge was eventually removed from the billing summary. The day of my mother’s funeral, her program was printed with the wrong birth year! This was extremely upsetting to me and our family. I demanded that Sunset Hills reprint the program and they delivered the correct versions soon after. We should have been reimbursed for this major oversight, but Sunset Hills did not do that nor did they extend any kind of apology.
Sunset Hills also gave me hassles when trying to get my mother’s death certificate, which I needed for important financial matters. Their staff was so incompetent and unprofessional that I had to go to an agency in another county to get the document. I also asked Sunset Hills if I had a plot that was pre-purchased by my parents. The representative kept giving me the runaround: dodging my calls, not answering questions, etc. I was finally told that there was not one, but I do not believe Sunset Hill’s answer.
Planning funeral services is never easy, but Sunset Hills made the process even more difficult. They completely lack in courtesy, professionalism, tact and follow through. My parents were respected in the High Desert community, and unfortunately, they were not afforded with the same respect for their resting place.
