Sunset Harbor sold us a timeshare that was through RCI. After spending $15,000 and being told that we would be able to use this timeshare for generations to come, I receive a letter stating that they will no longer be an RCI timeshare and that I will no longer be able to exchange points for other resorts. They also wanted us to spend a large amount of money to exit the timeshare....really???? Who in the world would spend $15,000 to own the timeshare, and then spend $2,000 to un-own the timeshare a few years later? Our other option was to exit this timeshare and join a different program they have for a significant fee. The new program would require a large additional fee for every week you vacationed. If there is anyone that has been scammed by Sunset Harbor please let me know! I would love to join a lawsuit against them! Shame on you Sunset Harbor for selling us a dream and taking it away a few years later!!!
We have similar experience with purchase and withdrawal from RCI. We contacted RCI at that time and were given no help determining our options. For years there have been talk of lawsuits as many people we impacted by false original purchase promises, this latest private network concept switch, their buy back at substantial extra cost, and/or their escalating maintenance fees to force conversion to one of these other options. If you know of any update in their distribution, it would be good to know.
Resort was sold as a points timeshare. We visited there finally after owning it for a few years. The resort is beautiful and in a good location. However our room was dirty. The counters were filmy. The glass patio doors were smudged. There was no furniture on the patio. There was a mixed matched set of utinsels and very few of them. No dish clothes. No cutting board. No toaster. No pots or kitchen accessories. There were bedding still in the washer and dryer. There were huge black stains on the sheets that could not be washed out.
We were told we could rent our timeshare when we did not use it. No such luck. They wanted another $500 to join Red Week. Now they want us to pay up to $1995 to exit their property. What about the $10,000 I paid for it. Please someone help us.
I too have been ripped off buy PRL and Sunset Harbor.
This has been a soap opera from day one. We were called to an information meeting to discuss a recent law suit settlement with RCI that impacted our membership with RCI. (We have another time share in Colorado).
The gentlemen were well versed on the subject and spoke with knowledge and understanding explaining the inner working of RCI.
Somehow by the time we left we had committed to a points swap that would enhance our position with RCI. Part of this was swap of points that would give us a time share in Texas. To help this along they put a short term charge of $8600.00 on our credit card. Well, there was no points swap and the charge stood on our credit card. The only thing we had to show for all this was a time share in a poorly reviewed resort in Texas. We have tried to make the best of this, paying our $95.00 maintenance fees each year.
Now we get a letter saying Sunset Harbor is leaving RCI and they want thousands of dollars to do so. We chose not to participate. I am not paying large sums of money to get out of something! Now I get a notice that my maintenance fees are going from $95.00 a year to $360.00. I have told them I am walking away from my ownership of this rip off resort.
I too will participate in any legal action we can take against PRL, their parent company and Sunset Harbor.
This sounds exactly like what they did to me. They also made a lot of promises when I bought it of how I could get money back by renting out my spot. I could also get points that would change into money. Is there a lawsuit getting started for this place. I just received my maintenance bill with a statement that says it could go up higher for next year & years to come. You were charged just $95? I'm being charged around $400.
A few months after my father passed away, in 2013, I received his maintenance fee invoice on Sunset Harbors timeshare property. The 2014 fee was around $125. I informed them of my father's death and put the timeshare in my name, regrettably, and paid the maintenance fee. I have never used this timeshare or even seen it. I turned it over to my name as a matter of course, as that's what I did with numerous agencies after his death.
This spring, I was called and told the maintenance fee was now over $400. Alarm bells went off. Why would the fee have gone up four times? I called to ask. The salesman didn't give me an answer, he just insisted that I should pay it. I asked to speak with someone with authority. He put their legal counsel on the phone. She was condescending, belittling, and offered no explanation as to why the fees had gone up four times. She actually said, "I'm not going to give you a lesson in economics." She compared it to how gas prices go up. She talked over me, refusing to listen to my side, saying, "I'm not going to stop talking if you keep interrupting."
I don't like it when people accuse me of things that aren't true. When they do this, I interrupt. Two people at this organization use these badgering tactics.
There is one kind person at SH. She called recently. She explained that I could buy my way out of this timeshare with three options, starting at $995.
I was floored. Buy myself out of something I never wanted to own, never even used?
Today, I called again. I had been asking for the contract my dad signed. I wanted the legal agreement, as I have no trust in SH to tell me the truth. WHen people have to be this rude, they must have something to hide.
The insolent man told me, "No, you can't have a copy of that. It's too late. You're in foreclosure. You didn't want to pay your maintenance fees. You have all your RCI points, and you are fine when it comes to using them, but when it comes time to fork over money that you owe, you don't want to pay."
I tried to interrupt him to tell him that I have never used a single RCI point in my life, nor have i ever used or seen this timeshare. But he kept talking, saying, "You always interrupt me. I'm just going to keep talking because you always interrupt me."
I hung up.
I'm a patient person. And I'm not easily angered. But it's just wrong to be badgered by a business. I'm certain these people intentionally misunderstood and misrepresented me. Is badgering legal? Yes. Is what they're doing with the timeshare legal? I doubt it. Is it legal to say, "No, you can't see the contract that you're supposedly in foreclosure for" ???
I know my dad would hate what is happening. He never wanted this. I regret paying that initial maintenance fee. I'd support a cause against these predators.
This so called resort is changing what was originally promised by salesman Paul Klinger 702-308-2292 which was a resort giving RCI points to use for a week at the resort or use at other RCI resorts. At that time I was told we would have the deed and RCI membership in two months. They had all of our money but they took eight months to get us the deed. That was January 2012 - August 2012. Then beginning in April and May 2015 they sent out surveys about giving owners a choice about what they own.
In August they began sending emails and leaving phone messages about owners having three options all of which require more money in addition to the purchase price and yearly maintenance. They are a bunch of scam artists and after reading reviews about this resort I am amazed they are still in business. In 2012 I reported them to the Better Business Bureau in Los Vegas (where their headquarters was, but since closed) and nothing was accomplished except to finally get my deed. I would love to be a part of a law suit to take these crooks down.
