Sunscape, Inc. Reviews

  • Dec 21, 2019

Sunscape Nursery's owner Steve Smith fired both his son Cory the manager and myself days after we completed the e-commerce website that I had been promised to complete with bonus payment for all the work being given on the backend after we began to generate revenue.

There was even talk of possible partnership on the site, since I provided all the Internet Marketing and SEO experience and work. Then we finished the site and a couple of days later we both got fired a few minutes before our shift began with the reason "I want to make a clean break" given to me by Steve Smith the owner. This was one week before Christmas 2019!

I was on salary for months working many times 48 or more hours in extremely hot weather in Florida with no additional pay over 40 hours because I was told by Steve Smith that "I want you to work less and make more. Now that it is hot there is more watering, however, there will be less in the winter so you will still make the same and work less."

Sounded great, except I worked all Spring, Summer, and Fall in the heat with many additional hours every week then one week before Christmas I was fired! I was just used for when I was needed and all promises made to me were just dangled carrots to provide Sunscape with FREE labor.

Conveniently now the Christmas and New Year's holidays I worked for I lost along with my income.

The contract I had obviously meant nothing, because it said 2 week notice was expected, so that must be only if I were to quit. One week before Christmas made it impossible to find more work. The worst part is Steve had this planned, because he moved the launch date up for the website so it would be ready before Christmas saving him holiday pay and any time I would now get over 40 hours without working.

After speaking with other former workers, I found out this is a pattern for Steve Smith at Sunscape. To use people for as much as he can get for as little as he can pay, them fire them with no notice as soon as he gets what he needs.
