After a few companies explained that a solar system big enough to cover our entire electric bill would be impossible, a rep come out from Precis Solar and figured that we would need a 12.0 kWpDC Photovoltaic System. It would have 2 inverters and 48 panels at a cost of $50,400.00. Well, not having that kind of money to pay for a system that big out right and after working the numbers, we decided to go with a lease. Since the system was supposed to cover the cost of our electrical usage, require no maintenance on our part and had a guaranteed yearly production, paying $388.56 a month instead of upwards of $2,000.00 a month was well worth it.
At this point, we had no idea that Sunnova was the leasing company for our system. After 4 months, the system was finally connected to the grid and running. It wasn't 2 months into our lease that we noticed the system was only putting out 1/2 of the kilowatts needed to meet our yearly production numbers. We contacted Sunnova that our system was under producing and that the system may not be functioning properly. After a month and no one from Sunnova had bothered to contact us, we called back to get a status report. We were told that the system was producing and not to worry. From then on, we contacted Sunnova every month for the next 4 months explaining that the system's production was declining. By the end of the 6th month, we contacted Precis Solar and explained the situation. At that point, Precis Solar explained that they no longer were associated with Sunnova and that the rep that sold us our system had been fired but despite that they said they would have someone come out and look at our system. Within 2 days, they had someone here. According to the installer, 1/2 our system wasn't functioning properly and they would get on it to correct the issue. Once the issue was corrected, we were getting twice the output. The installer also explained that companies like Sunnova, actually control your system via the monitoring. They turn your system on and off each day so your system doesn't waste electricity by running when the sun isn't out. I also started keeping track of the production numbers since Sunnova and So Cal Edison have different billing cycles. This ensures that our system's numbers and the numbers So Cal Edison has are the same.
Living in California does have its own unique problems. For one thing, it doesn't rain a whole lot and when it does rain, it is light and scattered. California, especially southern, has been in a drought for the last 10 years. Last Jan (2016), we finally got a decent rain storm. It was also the first time we realized that the installation of our solar system had caused a leak in our garage roof. We contacted Sunnova (since they are responsible for the entire solar system as per their contract). They contact a local company to come out and inspect the roof (only a company affiliated with Sunnova can remove the solar panel to inspect under them). The person showed up and we explained the situation. He then tells us that he only installs solar systems and is not a roof specialist. After removing the panels and after not being able to locate the problem, he drags our garden hose on to the roof to try and recreate the problem (which he does) but he still cannot find the source of the leak. He then removes a roof tile, takes 4 pictures, and explains that since he is no expert he will forward the pictures to Sunnova and they can decide. It takes about a week for our file to be updated with their assessment. The customer service rep forwards me a copy of the pictures and explains that they have come to the conclusion that the leak is being caused by debris under the tile. The problem with that is you can clearly see the water marks coming from above the tile he removed. He also said it was from a rock that was on our patio cover that was causing the leak. Clearly, he had no idea where the leak was coming from but Sunnova concluded that the installation of the solar was not to blame for the leak and they would not fix it. We contacted an actual company that does roofing and one of the owners came out to assess the leak. Unfortunately, he couldn't remove any of the solar panels but after looking at the roof and also the pictures, he explained that the tar paper was not damaged so it couldn't be just the tiles causing the leak, it would have to come from someone drilling a hole directly through a tile and also the plywood under the tar paper.
It has been over 3 years since our system was installed (Aug 8, 2014) and after 3 years is when the you are supposed to be compensated if your system is under producing (what it doesn't help with is the $2,000.00 + payment, we have paid to Edison in Aug of each year (that covers the amount of electricity that we end up using on top of what we are producing and granted, it is better than 4-5 payments of $2,000+ a month when we have to run the air conditioner)). According to their contract, we should have received our compensation 1 month after our 3 year cycle (by Sep 8, 2017). Well, here it is Jan 30, 2018 and still no compensation. We did receive an email stating our system was guaranteed a production of 61,042 kWh and our system actual production was 52,470 kWh giving us a difference of 8,572 kWh. At this point, I have been keeping track of our production from the beginning on a spread sheet. I have had to create a new file at 3 different points since Sunnova has changed their monitoring system and how they report the production 3 different times within the last 2 years. To make matters worse, you can only get the new production numbers back to Jan 1, 2016 (and believe me, they have changed more than just adding numbers after the decimal point).
So according to my spreadsheet, our system produced 51,176 kWh and again, I contact customer service. The customer service rep puts me on hold and adds up the numbers herself. Surprise, she gets the same total we got. A case is opened and we are told they will let the dept that handles these matters the correct information. Well, today, I contact them to find out what has been decided. We are told that the original numbers are correct and the case is closed.
Sunnova is useless and only creates more problems for anyone wanting to get solar for their home. They will also lie, encourage their customer service reps to lie and even their affiliated companies to lie on their behalf. Currently, we are looking for a lawyer that specializes in solar and fraudulent business practices just so we can see what they say to justify their behavior.
Decption done by sales rep, had understanding and was told that electric bill would be 10.00 to 20.00 dollars a month. was not advise of any lean being place on my property (they collected on all rebates state and federal; the number of panels was under calculated.
Sunnova refuses to work with me and keeps taking from my checking account went from 80.00 to 103.00 dollars along with SCE bill of 125.00 per month. Sunnova refuses to take this matter serious, Iam paying more than ever on my electric service.
I feel they are taking total advantage of me and other customers.
Senior citizens on a fixed income had the simple desire to help lower their energy costs and join the "green" movement. They accepted into their home a representative from " Sunnova".
Promised the following : Their Pnumatic Push Button Breaker panel would be replaced by "Sunnova"
Sunnova did not provide a new panel ( denied saying that ) At installation they determined the breaker box would be fine. Our Electric service company visited to inspect the breaker box and was shocked that the house had not burnned down as the additional inverter system began to melt the contact points in the breaker box, forcing the customer have an entire new panel box installed .. costing them $5,000.00! which they had to finance due to fixed income.
The roof was in very poor condition and needed replacing. Sunnova installed their system despite the obvious condition. ( Customer needs immediate roof replacement and Sunnova states it will charge the customer to remove the system )
Customer was to have 22 panels installed to accommodate usage. Sunnova delivered 11 panels .. and when asked by the customer "Where's the rest of the panels?" .. Installer stated that this is all thats needed.
Customer now pays "more" for their energy usage along with a $95.00 a month monitoring fee.
Complete SCAM for these seniors who are now trapped in this 25 yr lease. It is not over, as these seniors are my parents. Prepare to pay Sunnova. ( Personal along with any "Class Action" )
For the past 15 months we've been having problems with Sunnova Solar. Initially, the sales rep sold us on a unit that was supposed to cover our electricity bill, and not to mention we overestimate the coverage because we had explained that we had plans to expand our home. A proposal was written up and numbers looked good. The prososal stated that Sunnova was supposed to cover 100% of the average consumption, which calculated to 12,000 kWh annually . Then came time for the contract. We were under the impression that the contract would be based on the proposal. Little did we know that the contract being signed was for a unit sized too small for the numbers Sunnova guaranteed. As a consumer, we trusted in this company to know what they are doing. Sadly, we were wrong. Electric bills started coming. The first 2 months were great. I am thinking, wow! Best thing we have ever done. Then the large electric bills started coming. We were a bit confused since we shouldn't be paying an electric bill that was the same amount as if we didn't have Solar Panels. Calls to Sunnova customer service started, and nothing. " The system is working like it should be working" is their famous quote. More calls with same results, yet electric bills kept getting higher and higher.
What in the world is happening here? We thought. Customer service was no help, so finally spoke with a supervisor, Toni Thomas. Supervisor isn't any better. Actually, worse. The lady needs training in the business. Since, customer service and the supervisor are no help, we started taking matters into our own hands. Started adding up the numbers, reaching out to other solar companies, and each time it was confirmed that the unit Sunnova sized for us was too small. The system is never going to meet even the guaranteed number in the contract. That information was relayed to Sunnova each time, and each time they used their famous quote. "The systems is working like it should be working" After calling everyday, literally. Toni Thomas, decided to do some research, and confirmed they used 10 months of electric bills instead of 12 months like any normal company would. After she "consulted" with their engineers, she finally admitted that the unit was sized too small.
This is the way Sunnova scams people. They send their sales reps to promise you amazing results, size the unit too small, and they try to make it "better" by giving you more panels at a cost to you. We requested a copy of the engineer reports, but have been denied a copy due to "company policy". Still don't understand, why the consumer paying this company for a service can't get a copy of the engineer report. Toni Thomas offered to add more panels to cover the original guranteed amount, but it's going to cost us more monthly. So, we are supposed to pay more money to this company who miscalculated to begin with. How does that happen? We have to pay more so they can correct their error!! Still boggles my mind. How is it that a company can mess up this big? Fraud. Only answer I can come up with. That or they have employees who don't know what they are doing. Actually, it's both.
At one point, I am assuming that Toni Thomas got tired of dealing with the phone calls and emails, that she referred the case to their resolution dept. the person we are dealing with is Ignacio Herrera. He requested that we email him what we wanted as a result of this issue, and we did. Doing so did nothing. He was no help, and hasn't resolved anything. Now, Toni Thomas is back in the picture, and we keep going around in circles. Our request were disregarded and we are back to square 1. We are still dealing with this issue, and we will keep dealing with it until we get what we deserve. My goal is to do everything possible to expose this company for what it is, and help other consumers avoid this nonsense. People, stay away from Sunnova! Read other reviews and you will see that others are dealing with the same. Other dealing with this, help out by speaking out. Don't let these people get always with what they are doing.
I was told by the sales rep that the 18 panels on my home would wipe out my electric bill from Edison, it never has. I get a true up bill every year, this past year it was $1400. I have contacted them on numerous occasions only to be told that they system is operating properly and there is nothing they can do as I am under contract. I have a letter from the sales rep stating that based on his design I should not have a Edison bill. Sunnova doesn’t care about their customers, only the bottom line. I have requested additional panels to be installed even though my bill with them would change, they won’t do that unless I sign a new 25 year lease??? Why would I do that when I am already unhappy. I want these panels off of my house or I want additional panels installed, and to make an adjustment to my contract. I will not sign another contract with them as they cant fulfill the promises already made to me. My average Edison bill was $165 a month, now I am spending over $250 a month
On or about september or November a salesman named Mark (Lacour) representing Trinity Solar came to my house asking me if i was interested in going solar. i had several solar co's at the house before and turned them away because of the charge for the panels. mark said there is more than one plan in nj and that i may qualify for free solar panels and the only time i would ever have to pay for electricity would be if the panels took in less solar power than i actually used in electricity. i said i would be interested in that deal. he said the only electricity charge would be a very small fee to ac electric company to stay connected to their grid.
a few days later mark returned with his boss, i believe his name was brian, they sat down on my sofa and showed the solar plan for my roof. 33 panels total on both sides of my main roof, i then asked brian how much will this cost me. he replied "with 33 panels you won't have to pay anything, unless we get a month of bad weather". finally on dec 13 the work crew arrived to start the panels, the job was completed the following day. the crew manager said he can't turn the system on because there was no sun, but the following day the carpenter was coming to repair a slump in my roof and you can just ask him to turn your service on. this was another lie the electric co still had to take their meter off and put a new solar meter in, and then there were the inspections, building and electrical. sometime in february i got a call from sunnova saying that they were activating my solar panels,
i never heard of sunnova before, i thought they were the people who turned on the panels. mark said that there are only trinity, me, and the electric co. involved in this transaction. in march $127.33 was taken from our checking account, i assumed that amount cleaned up what we owed in electric before the panels were actually turned on. then in april another $127.33 was deducted. thats when we contacted sunnova about the deductions, carlos a cs rep said the money deducted was for the lease payment on the panels. i told carlos the panels were paid for by the state, at that time he neither agreed or disagreed, but later in the conversation he brought up the $127.33 deductin again and i said what am i paying this money for, he answered "your paying for the solar service. i told carlos to get those ugly panels off my roof and stop taking money from my bank account, he said i'm sorry sir but that isn't possible i became very angry and realized i had played for a fool. carlos ended the conversation by saying that they had my wife on tape agreeing to those terms,
i demanded to hear that tape, he said he would send me the contract that i agreed to and launch an investigation. this is the first time we saw this contract, no contract was ever presented to us by either trinity or sunnova. we are two disabled seniors on a fixed budget, we would never have agreed to increase our expences, we were lied to all through the deal by both sunnova, their partner trinity and their sales representatives. one more thing we spoke to ginia at sunova who appoligised to us for being mislead. these people are ripoffs and need to be stopped. also because of the fact that the salesman mark told us that someone from the company will be notifying us to get our banking info because atlantic electric would be taking the grid payment monthly automatically, this is how they are able to steal $127.33 per month from my checking account.
Sunnova has made mistakes on my account right from the beginning. They wouldn't admit to their errors, but have caused me much hardship and stress due to their lack of professionalism. I have a full report on the BBB, it is very stressful to continue to write the same thing over again. At this time I am looking for a Solar Attorney. Unless you have nerves of steel, a huge pocket book, steady blood pressure and a good ear for B.S., I would suggest steering clear of this company.
The Salesman came to my house in night. He didint took much time ,just explain the basic of the contract.Iam a 60 year old and he just put me into sign and he didnt gave the copy until the 4th day.He didnt explain to me the 7 days that i have to cancelled.I didnt read the ahll document until 2 days later. Iwrote a letter to the company and i received a call much time later.I told them about the roof in my letter that my house its very old and leaks every time.So i dont have the opportunity to tell the inspector of the ceiling.Thas why i told the m that i dont want the solar plates because of the roof deteriorated. I havent received any response to my complaints but i keep sending them email or messages to their phone and a person call Victor sunnova.I havent received any answer from him or Sunnova.I hope everything goes right and that you can help me in these issues. They havent installed any solar plates yet and i hope they understand my point of view.
Sunnova is the worlds leader in solar ripoff. False claims of production and savings. Now pay more for energy than without solar. Was told my system would produce 60kw to 65kw per day. System averages 35kw per day.
I signed up for service november 2014 and was told 60 darys to install. Nine months later system was installed. Should have been a clue of things to come. A few weeks after install the system quit working. Sunnova tells you that they monitor your system to make sure it's working. I had to call them to advise them that system was down. Two weeks later the Inverter was replaced. Afew weeks later the inverter smelled burnt and quit working again. Once again I had to inform Sunnova that the system was down. Inverter was replaced again a few weeks later.
When working the system average production was around 35kw. In an effort to solve production issues I made multiple calls to Sonnova and all I heard were excuses. (maybe cloudy, give it time) Since the cusomer portal was not working I had to take daily readings off of the inverter to check production. (not working now, how convenient) I also called the inverter manufacturer to ask why the inverter keeps failing. I found out that the inverter is over heating because it's mounted on the sunny side of the house. ( should not be) I now park my RV in front of it to protect it from fuul sun.
After over a year of trying to solve my issues I have realized that Sunnove just doesn't care. It looks like my issues will never be resolved. My advise, run far away from this company.
My elderly ill parents had this woman show up on their door telling them about solar. She told them there would be no money down and that they would only get a bill from the solar company and none from the electric company. They had another "common pushy salesman" show up on the door and sold them a bill of goods. Luckily Sunnova emailed the contract after the 7 day time limit so they'll hopefully be able to get out of this contract. This company took full advantage of my elderly parents. I wanted to be there, but had to be at work. They totally s****.>
Also I am tied to a 25 yr lease I cant get out of unless I pay a large sum of money. they have fleeced me of the money i was paying pseng and adding mor to my bill Houston Texas
I signed a contract for 20 to 25 years for solar pannels the pannels were saposed to reduce my bill it has raised it or at least equaled the cost of my PS&G bill it hasnt lowered it. I cant see the savings at all help.

I make lease with solar systems who promessed annual 13,99 kWh per year paying 260.00 per month.
when i consume around 6000 kWh i have doble charges by electric company plus solar system company.
my contract # is 005HIR I i has been terying to resolve this problems and I sent by fax the doble payment i must paid in order to have electricity.
they ner respond. i has been sent minimum 15 letters without any response
