Bought top-of-the-line roller lifters and RV Stage 1 cam for my 99 GMC Suburban at rebuild. We were building a towing vehicle. Summit Racing claimed their products were top notch top tier products build for racing.
I am not racing, just building a sturdy engine to withstand towing a travel trailer. The 5.7 Vortec was fully rebuilt. No cost spared.
Summit Racing products failed within 50 miles. (SEE PICTURE BELOW). The rollers on the end of the hydraulic lifters failed and destroyed the camshaft. The engine had to come out and be cleaned with debris that spread all the way through the motor.
THIS IS LESS THAN 50 miles mostly idling and tuning. Not towing.
SUMMIT RACING told me to pound sand. Because I waited longer than 30 days to install the products I bought from them, they will not stand behind their products.
The local auto parts (NAPA) shop tells me that this is a frequent failure on the 5.3, 6.2 and sometimes 5.7 with Chinese built products. I bought new parts from the local shop. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH SUMMIT RACING AGAIN. PERIOD.
Ordered a new hitch cargo carrier from Summit, but instead got a used item that was dirty, broken & rusted. I called to report this that same day. We ended up having to pay more through another retailer that I had to make a last minute drive 45 miles each way to pick up, so that we could leave on schedule.
When I called Summit, they told me I could return the item upon our return. After our return, I first chatted online with a representative who sent me a return label and said I would be reimbursed when they got the item back & that I could drop the item off at a UPS store or request a pickup. So after all the inconvenience and extra expense, and having never received the item I ordered (just a piece of broken & rusted junk that I then had to spend more time/effort to return), I go online to find out that a pickup would require a fee to UPS, because Summit did not authorize a pickup. After another long call with Summit, they authorized a prepaid label, but when they received the item, they charged me for shipping! This company is a joke.
Purchased a transmission kit advertised on their site which stated was correct for any vehicle from 1966-1996 which in truth was only valid for 1966 only. Kit was installed as per instructions and would not function properly and while trying to troubleshoot wore out the clutches in the transmission, bought a rebuild kit from them and after repairing the unit again displayed driveability issues and again damaged the clutches that were just replaced. Just for curiousity sake looked up the kit manufacturers site and then realised they made 3 separate kits for these transmissions depending on the year made and that the kit installed was the wrong one.
Contacted Summit Racing and they offered to refund the cost of the kit 50.00 but I have to take it out of the transmission which it is installed in and involves a bunch of gaskets ??? The transmission has been taken out 2 times all the fluid has been ruined as the internal clutches solely due to the misinformation created by Summit Racing which refuse to accept any resposibility for the blunder. Since the part # fiasco the correct kit was installed and everything works as it should now. This is a huge company which displays no integrity for its actions and should be avoided as it does not accept responsibility for damages it soley is responsible for..
I order 2 B & M Transmissions from summit racing.for a show truck. both when bad.in less than a year..I did not get 5.000 miles out of the two togather...I was told by summit racing.. hey sorry about your luck .but the transmissions only have a 90 day warranty on them... all we can do is sell you one more of them....I said that will be 3 in less than a year....they said so....what a rip off... I will never use them every again....and if you try to leave a bad review on the parts so the next guy will not have to go thur what I when thur.. they will not let you post it...it slows down sales... they got there 30 peaces of sliver. and Im looking for my 3rd transmission in less than a year. and got less 5000 miles on the truck......its all about the "MONEY" with summit racing...
