I'm writing this as a cautionary tale for anyone who is considering selling tickets on StubHub.
A few months ago I decided to sell 4 tickets to a concert event at Madison Square Garden (MSG), in order to use the proceeds to purchase 2 better seats to the same event. It ended up being a simple transaction on Stubhub, listing my 4 tickets and waiting for them to sell. Then buying 2 tickets for the same show again. This was a great deal for Stubhub, since they collected signifigant fees on both transactions.
It turns out it was not such a great deal for me. In the middle of the show, I started getting emails, calls, and texts from Stubhub that my sale has been cancelled and I was responsible for $2000+ in fees. While still in the venue, I called Stubhub and they explained that the buyer claimed they were denied entry. I told them I was in the venue and I would sort it out, and they said it was too late that they already accomidated the buyer with new tickets and that I was responisble for that cost. They told me it was my responsibilty to prove that they buyer defrauded me (or them) by getting scan report from the venue. So I asked around the venue, went to the main mgmt office, and was told that this had happened countless times tonight and it was obvious that a large scam was going on. They walked me over to the seats I sold, and found a couple sitting there with legitimate tickets that they claim they bought for cash on the street before the show.
The mgmt office explained to me that it is likely that the buyer printed multiple tickets and sold them on the street before trying to enter himself. Once they were denied entry they called Stubhub who is obligatied under a "FanProtect" guarantee to accomidate them. The MSG mgmt office also explained that they do not cooperate with or any third StubHub and will not give me any scan report without a court order. They told me StubHub would insist I get one (like everyone else who gets in this situation) and will charge my card if I cant get them one (which is impossible to get).
The MSG managment office was correct. In the coming days I received threatening emails from Stubhub about what would happen if I did not "cooperate" and get them a scan report. Every voicemail I left them was unanswered. Any email I sent them was not replied to..rather an indentical form letter was sent in reply a few days later. When I finally got somebody from StubHub Executive Claims on the phone, I explained the scam the MSG mgmt told me about, and they denied this would happen because thier customer was a premiere" customer. I explaind that thier customer was likely a ticket broker so it could be their customer who scammed us. It was at that point the claims agent told me that they were going to charge my card today if I could not produce a scan report. When I explained how MSG said they did not cooperate with a thid party, I was told to tell them I was not dealing with a third party...yes that is right...StubHub asked me to lie to get the information. At that point I terminated the conversation and my card was changed $1800 an hour later.
I immediately disputed the charge with American Express, along with tickets I bought (They runied my show by calling me and having me do all of the legwork). I then received threatning letters about my StubHub account being deleted and all sales/purchases being cancelled unless I drop the dispute. Stubhub did not respond to either chargeback, which shows that they are fully aware that they are operating outside of the law and have no defense whatsoever. I was credited for the tickets I bought and for StubHubs penalty fees so I feel like things are settled.
So, for anyone reading this. Don't sell on Stubhub. They will tell you they faily investigate these claims, but there is no investigation. They ask the seller for impossible items of proof even when the buyer could be fruadulent, and villify and charge the seller when these items are not produced. They bully people who try to legitimatley dispute charges. They operate with impunity unless they are sued or disputed, and then they cave like cowards. Just stay away from these guys.
I decided to sell my ticket to a concert I was not attending on Stubhub. Two days after I placed the ticket for sale, the company claimed there was a glitch in their system that kicked my entire entry out as fraudulent. Then there is something wrong with their system because my tickets were legitimately purchased on an American Express card and were part of an 8 ticket package. My sisters and their husbands attended the concert. I am the only one who did not and placed my ticket for sale on their site. THEIR system mistakenly threw out my entire entry but when I called to ask what happened and get my money back for what happened they decided to penalize me by not compensating me for a loss that was their fault. They claimed they cannot assist me and now I am without the price of the ticket and no financial recourse from them for a mistake their system made. Their fraud/legal and customer service department were of no assistance and wasted my time on the phone with them. Now I am without a ticket and without the money for the sale of the ticket. I could have placed this ticket on Ebay or Craigslist or any number of sites and sold my ticket. The fact that they have just disregarded any opportunity to assist me as this was my first transaction with this company is very disappointing. I will never deal with them again. This company is a fraud.
I just purchased 2 tickets for Air Supply Concert in Pechanga Casino on Jul 30,2016. It says on the StubHub site that the prices were 189.92 each ticket. The total amount should be $379.84 and they added total fees of $ 83.38 This is a total rip-off and so disgusting to know that when they sent me the ticket, the original price is only $50 each. It is ok if they make an over price of 100% only but it was too high! what in the world are they doing to us? they buy all the tickets and profit so much from the people who are eager to watch the concert? This is too much! I do not believe that STUBHUB is onloy selling it from other ticket owners. i bet they buy all the tickets and sell it overpriced sky high,,Thia is a daytime robbery and I want to bring this to any social medias anywhere so I can warn the people not to buy from Stubhub anymore!! they should have warned us on the first purchase page that the origi8nal price was $50 and the stubhub price is that high then we will not be compelled to buy and look for other alternatives.
STUBHUB is not honest. I might file a suit against them for misleading their clients. Total rip off! I wil write to all news agancies so that this issue will be discussed and let people know how this works.
Worst company ever. I sold tickets on Nov. 30 delivered tickets right away. Was expecting payment by Dec 5. Concert has came and went and they were able to enjoy the show. Now here I am on December 13 and no payment. I called Dec 11 was told should have paid on the 10th. Then they told me by the end of the day on the 11th. Now its the 13th and still nothing. Called again was told they were having issues with their payment processing system and should be by the end of this week. This is unacceptable and not my problem. Why do you expect me to provide my tickets right away only to be stuck with no payment? I feel we should be compensated for this issue. I will never sell tickets through this company again. All the reps can say is I am sorry please bare with us longer.
