I am a freelance content writer and found a job posting online for a new startup in California called Stream41 (http://stream41.com/index.html). I applied to the posting and was contacted very quickly by a man named Andy Chaudhuri. He was very charismatic and talked quickly and highly positively about the nature of his business - he was always in "sales mode". After the call I researched the company and his name and found several negative reviews regarding his parent company, Whitecode Labs (http://whitecodelabs.com/). After several red flags, I proceeded hesitantly with him and just wanted to find out what would happen.
I signed a digital contract with him and was invited to join Stream41's slack channel (an internal chat program for collaboration) with other people who had recently joined the team. Based on the contract, we agreed I would develop 4-5 pieces of content for ~$50 each (an initial project total of $250-300).
I have emails from Andy agreeing to these rates but after several weeks of not hearing from him, I finally had to call him directly. After weeks I called him & he was irate & dismissive and said he would "pay the invoice in the second or third week of June". I immediately stopped work and set a reminder to contact him during the "second or third week of June" as he promised to pay.
During this time I reached out to two people on his team to find out about their experiences. One told me she had not been paid by him & simply stopped work. The second person was still on the team and expressed grave concern that she would never be paid despite him promising his staff to pay.
I began sending him invoice reminders and emails during the second and third week of June to no avail. He eventually wrote back CCing his legal team (he doesn't have one - he just created an email domain "[email protected]") & he refuses to pay the invoice as he promised or return any emails.
His businesses lists several addresses (search for Stream 41 & Whitecode Labs). BEWARE OF THIS FRAUD!!!
