Stevens Worldwide Van Lines Reviews

  • Jul 30, 2018

I had a relatively quick turnaround move. I found a new job and needed to relocate in one month. I got estimates from a few companies, and after some research, I decided to book with Stevens. They seemed nice and helpful. Everything had gone well in setting up the dates for the move.

The night before my move, my wife and I stayed up until 6 in the morning to finish packing everything. At this time, the driver in my town (I had to go meet him and drive him around my neighborhood). He then determined that they would need a shuttle to get my items, which was fine. At this point, I was expecting him to arrive soon with the shuttle. Instead, I got a call that the movers that were booked couldn't move me that day. They rescheduled for the next day.

The movers were fine while we were watching them move our items, but then the shuttle went to another location. Who knows what happened there.

Finally, our stuff was on its way to our new home.

We arrived a few days before our things and had booked a hotel. We got a call a few days later that our stuff was set to arrive and he would be there in about 2 hours. We were staying about an hour from our new home, so we packed up and left the hotel. We then got another call that he was a lot farther away than he thought and that it would be several more hours (Google Maps could've prevented this). We sat there in our empty house waiting for our stuff.

When it finally arrived, the movers would walk by with an item without asking us where it went and when they did ask they would place it somewhere else for no apparent reason.

One of the items, a 16-cube organizer, was severely damaged. An entire shelf had been broken off and it would sway back and forth at the slightest touch. I had them move this out to the garage because I didn't want my 3-year-old or 6-month-old around it. At this time, after they hurried to unload everything placing it throughout the house, I was asked to sign the paperwork and was told I had nine-months to report damage. The driver (John) said he already noted the shelf that had been broken and they would contact me about a claim form. I had purchased the most expensive insurance option because I couldn't afford to replace anything after spending $10,000 to move across the country.

We waited until we got more unpacked in case there was other damage so that we would only fill out one claim form for everything, and we noted three major items that were damaged.

The bill of lading was so non-descript, there was no way to identify which was the item that was damaged, so being specific was out of the question. We gave them the numbers of the stickers on the item. We sent them pictures of the items.

They denied our claim because:

It was submitted 77 days after the items were delivered. (With two kids, starting a new job, and starting a life across the country, it takes a bit of time to unpack.)

No pictures were submitted. They sent the denial before they received the pictures. I have an email from the "adjuster" stating:

Dear Mr. R.

I have received your photos and have saved them to your file for further review.

Thank you,

Wendy Fitzmaurice

Claims Adjuster

If they're going to deny your claim if it's not claimed immediately, then why do they have a nine-month claim period. This is intentionally misleading so that they can deny your claim.

This is beyond frustrating. It appears that instead of actually researching the claim, they only look to provide any possible reason to deny it. Stevens appears to have no interest in putting the customer first. I will also be sharing this with MoveBuddha who helped me identify Stevens as an option.
