I experienced the greatest disappointment of my 37 year business life and possibly my entire life when I did business with Steelsmith, Inc. While conducting my due diligence on the company before purchasing my 8,400 sq. ft. building the company appeared to have a good product but was lacking in erecting. When I expressed my concern to Shawn Cortner, VP/Sales Manager he assured me that this (erecting) "is what they do best" and "they would really shine" in this area. He promised to send me a highly experienced crew that would complete my "small project" in 4-6 weeks depending on the weather. Shortly after the crew arrived major problems began to develop. The 28 year old foreman confessed to me this was his first job and that he assembled his crew from Criag's list and they had zero building experience! After 3 months I had to let them go and hire a local crew to finish and correct all their mistakes. The building immediately leaked and still does to this day. Therefore today I have a brand new $600,000 Corle building on a $1,000,000 property that leaks! All thanks to Steelsmith, Inc.
Four more issues concerning Steelsmith Inc. Before I paid my down deposit Shawn was calling me everyday and sometimes twice a day. As soon as I paid my deposit and signed the contract he quit calling and would not return my calls. It was like I didn't exist once he got my money. Also there were numerous delays in getting the engineering plans which stalled the entire project. When attempting to be compensated for Steelsmith's many business mistakes I dealt directly with the president, Don Gilmore, and gave him numerous opportunities to "make things right." He also ignored me and ultimately I had to take him and Steelsmith to court where I prevailed. The final issue is another one that involves integrity. Steelsmith presents themselves as a manufacturer when in fact they are only brokers for Corle Building Systems and others. My advise to everyone is to avoid the severe disappointment and heartache I experienced and deal directly with the building manufacturers! There is no service that Steelsmith can provide that the manufacturers can not.

This company has the worst customer service I have ever received in my entire life! They first used high pressure and deceptive sales tactics, once the building was suppose to ship and I had questions regarding the building and it's erection the person in charge of answering questions was either in a meeting, out to lunch, or away from his desk. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the supervisor who then called me names. He even threatened to keep my deposit and not ship the building! I wished I had taken the time to check their online complaints before giving them a deposit. They even have lawsuits! I have also contacted the Better Business Bureau. My advice, stay away from these people and purchase from someone else who is willing to work with the customer.
I see my issue as a con just like other people. I lost my deposit as well. This has me so mad right now. Every time I see one of their very misleading commercials my blood pressure goes up.
I sent my deposit thinking I was simply securing the good deal they were offering with no commitment, for buildings long in inventory that they would like to sell. This was clearly expressed over the phone by the sales persons, I arrived home only to find out when I got home the document they sent to my wife for signature because I was travelling stated the deposit was not refundable.
At that time I thought I may as well proceed rather then lose my deposit, but in the end the cost was very high it wasn't the building it was claimed to be and nowhere near the great price they implied. If this were the old west that sales manager would be buried too his neck in sand, but it's not. It's the modern era of deception and fraud.
DON'T FALL FOR THIS
They don't need to sell any buildings to be profitable they just need to continue ripping everyone off for their deposits for the cost of a few phone calls. I also had contacted them previously just to get more information. They called me, the price was thought to be very good and seemed worth the deposit to secure the price. As stated I was travelling across the country at the time and soon needed to board the plane. I ASKED THEM TO CALL BACK IN A FEW DAYS OR I WOULD CALL THEM, THEN THE SALES MANAGER PHONED WITH THE BIGGER SALES PITCH AND THE BIG GUARENTEE. Thinking !!! as stated no commitment was required I had the money wired. When I returned home and started conversing with the sales office I soon realized this was no deal at all and when all was said and done this building was much more expensive than others, not to mention concerns over structural strength due to our snow load. After careful consideration and lots of homework I decided to cancel the order, only to be informed that my deposit was non refundable.
THE ODD THING THOUGH, THE YOUNG FELLOW WHO ORIGINALLY CALLED WHO WAS POLITELY TRYING TO PURSUAD ME - WAS NO LONGER WORKING THERE WHEN I PHONED THE NEXT DAY TO ENSURE I DIDN'T GET RIPPED OFF BY A CON MAN - NOT KNOWING I REALLY DID JUST DIDN'T KNOW IT YET.
These guys are deceptive liars with no integrity. So if you’re looking for a building look elsewhere.
