I signed on with Steele Management two years ago as an extra. I came in and meet with a guy named Andrew who stated that he used to work on some TV show. I don't know if that was true at the time, but he made it seem like he had connections and could get me work as an extra. I had to pay money and since I was young I assumed that he could get me work as an extra.
Unfortunately he didn't get me a single job as an extra. He emailed me and asked me to send a picture for the website. I had checked the website numerous times but it have never been updated. I recently went on the company's website and it hasn't changed in two years! Now there isn't even a phone number or address to contact them, it’s just an email address. There isn't a lot of information on the website itself which is a red flag. ACTRA has a full page of details on being a background performer as well as contact info such as an address and number they can be reached for questions. ACTRA also provides an agent for people who want to be an actor.Steel Management didn't seem like they had agents to represent actors.
I'm not sure if the business is still running. I've read a few reports on here about people complaining about being scammed and I haven't heard any positive reviews about it anywhere else. I remember last year someone on a Facebook group posted a warning to actors/models about this place. That’s when I realized I had been scammed. They never called me or even tried to get me extra work. They don't even have a business Facebook page where you can like their business. Most well-known companies well have a page or twitter or some sort of social media.
Since then I have been working as an indie writer/producer in Toronto. All the actors in our projects have been represented by ACTRA or a reputable agency like Hero Artist. I have never worked with actors from Steel Managemnt.
I hope this post is informative to anyone who wants to get into model/Acting to make sure they do their research on a company before signing on with them. There are a lot of companies like this that try pray on people who have limited knowledge on how things work in the entrainment industry.
ACTRA is a good place to find information on what an agency can and cannot do.
Its unfortunate that this business took advantage of not just me but other people. Hopefully if enough people come out it can stop them from getting away with this.
they did a great sales job and took our money never in the year got any calls for work ,when i asked for a refund in jan of 2015 andrew told me to email him , i did and never heard anything or got my money, now phone # are out of service
