Steadfast Management Reviews
I moved into an apartment at Canyon Resort "Luxury" Apartments, otherwise known as STAR III Canyon Resort, LLC. The management company Steadfast not only neglects it's tenants but leaves an unsafe environment. Between Google Reviews, Better Business Bureau complaints, and Rip Off Report complaints -- this company has a terrible reputation with hundreds of other tenants/previous tenants.
Immediately I discovered the "complimentary" dryer did not work. In fact, it still does not work and takes 4 rounds in the dryer before the clothes are dry. The washer does not fully drain leaving the clothes soaking wet. The humidity was so bad in the laundry area that the condensation begain to warp the shelving.
Within the first couple of months I came home from a long day and found that my apartment had flooded to the extent that water was flooding outside from the bottom of the front door.
The apartment complex needed to replace the entire floor throughout the apartment and remove a warped door from the laundry room.
The flood was coming from under the sink due to incorrect installation where the threads did not line up. My girlfriend assisted the maintenance man as he was having trouble. Two companies were hired and fans were placed in the apartment blowing hot air under the carpeting in the bedroom and over the laminate flooring. After attempts to salvage the flooring the company realized that they would not be able to and the flooring was torn up and replaced.
During this time I had to stay in a hotel. The apartment complex had me move all of my belongings and furniture from room to room and with the hot fans the apartment stayed at a minimum temperature of 85 degrees. I tried to work with the manager regarding reimbursement for hotel stays due to the time it was taking them to finish repairs.
The manager claimed that the apartment was habitable even with the August temperatures, the hot fans, and all of my furniture in the living room. As I explained this to the manager she told me to sleep on my couch (which was also covered in belongings). The property managers refused to reimburse for any of my incurred expenses. An insurance claim was filed but most of the damages could not be claimed.
The door to the laundry room has not yet been replaced and the shelving is still warped. The baseboards were ruined from water damage but the apartment complex and it's managers & maintenance could not be bothered with finishing the repairs.
In September the toilet began to leak from the valve nearly covering the whole bathroom floor. Luckily I was able to catch the valve in time to turn it off and clean up the water before it reached the new carpet in the closet. Maintenance was informed but never bothered to check.
At the end of November I noticed that there was water leaking from the fire sprinkler in the ceiling of the bathroom. The ceiling is soft/mushy, the water damage above the drywall is obvious. The ceiling has begun to crack. The fire sprinkler is falling out of the ceiling violating Fire Hazard Code. There is discolored paint around the area as though this has been an ongoing problem but was patched with a bandaid. A maintenance request was called in for this as well. Nothing has been done.
Today, a letter was placed in my front door stating that the office had received several complaints about my girlfriends dog and that my account would be charged an extra $100 and $10 per week until I reach $400 and sign an animal addendum. My girlfriends dog is a service dog who assists with PTSD and seizures. My lease allows me to have guests in my residence for as long as I allow and the Animal clause states that service dogs will not require a pet fee.
The office staff was incredibly rude when I called about this "violation". After the coversation kept escalating I exclaimed that I want out of this lease and I have just cause to break it. I've reached out to Austin Tenant Counsel, Better Business Bureau and have left reviews warning others to stear clear of properties managed by Steadfast.
Currently, there still has not been any resolution or agreement. Maintenance failed to come despite the many requests.
