Stanley Fisher was highly recommended to me by another actor to help me create a voice over demo. When I first contacted him he told me classes were $50/cash and two hours in the evening at his studio in Baltimore. I met him, along with three other students, not at Stanley’s studio, but his work office at iHeart Radio in Baltimore. The two hour workshop actually went to three and one half hours because Stanley would not stop speaking about himself. We all had to sit there and listen to his stories and name dropping of various voice over work, breakups, money issues, etc. All the while waiting to do some recording and listen to his critiques. He gave each of us a nicely printed handout with sample scripts. Each of us recorded our scripts, between his incessant talking, and took our scripts home to study for the following week. Two of us had prior experience and just needed a demo and some training and tips. The goal at the end of the workshops is to have a professionally produced voice over demo to use, produced by Stanley himself. By the second workshop, I and another student, asked Stanley just how long would it take to have the demo produced. Specifically, how many $50 classes so that I can budget my money. I never received a straight answer, and I asked several times. We were told that it would take anywhere from 9 to 14 months until we were ready for a demo. $50, four times a month, etc. Never a straight answer. I stopped going and contacted the person that recommended him to me and discovered that his demo still wasn’t produced after several months. He also had another class that he only offered to those that graduated from his first class. As to how long one had to attend his first level workshops before moving on to this next grade, again, was some random time frame that only he decided when he felt the student was ready. It quickly became apparent that Mr. Fisher was going to keep dragging out classes and taking $50 per student as long as he could do it. Personally, I have never taken an course, class, workshop, or training, that didn’t have a set time frame. I took three classes with him and never went back.
