Took my initial deposit for a prototype. Never delivered proof drawings responded to emails about manufacturing questions, or any other response for 2 weeks, then asked for more money in the $$$$ of dollars to complete a very small prototype. At this point I realized the owner(s) mostly just sat at the bar until the wee hours of the morning and weren't even capable of completing my prototyping project. I clearly stated I no longer wanted to do business and asked for a refund of my deposit. Was told they would issue a refund check...waited a week for that...never happened...it has been 6 weeks now and still just one excuse after the other. At one point the owner mentioned being sued by 7 different people...now I know why. This "company" is doing nothing but scamming their prototyping services to take deposits with no intention of delivering finished product. They are floating on startup funding they collect from various organizations. They have had 5 different addresses in the 2 years they have been open. Sad part is "hustlers" like this make legitimate startup and small businesses look bad. I'm taking them to court in hopes of recouping my money. Lawsuit #8.
Hi, I'm Chico Weber, the owner of Squarefruit Labs and personally know the person who wrote this report in an attempt to slander myself and my company. Its no wonder she wants to keep her name a secret. She was been fully refunded in 2016. She even continued asking for additional work up until May of 2017! The confusion started with her signing a consulting agreement that required an initial deposit that was more than what she was able to pay. She made a partial payment with the understanding that the work would not start until the full deposit was received. After signing I never received that full deposit and she demanded a refund on her partial payment before I even began on her prototype. Before she demanded a refund she went on multiple sites to report my company as a scam. I have the emails and contract to back it up. I offer full refunds on my billable hours before I start any project and even during the development of the project if I am unable to make progress or they simply want to stop work. I'm a small business in St. Louis and its hard to find quality people to work with especially when it comes to prototyping. I'm happy to say I've never been sued over my work and I'm happy to say I have expanded to larger spaces across multiple coworking centers to be closer to the partners I work with. I've also been grateful for the funding earned from local organizations that believe in the mission of Squarefruit Labs. I have worked with hundreds of individuals and startups in the region to deliver quality prototypes. If you are interested to learn more about what I do or about this incident feel free to contact me. She was kind enough to post all my information! Oh, and the bar she is referencing is Brennan's in the Central West End. Great atmosphere if you haven't been!
