Posted my motorcycle on craiglist and the next day i get an email from someone saying their name is ross simms Email). He wanted more info on the motorcyle. I replied. The next day he thanked me and said he wanted me to purchase spynewbike info about the motorcycle.
That is when i found the exact verbage on yscam.com that someone else had posted with a different buyers name...The text goes like this: "thank you for providing vin. However i don't want to obtain it myself because if it's bad then i just lost my money, but you can still use it however it turns out. I’d like to recommend you if you can use spynewbike.com - because they're way cheaper than carfax, and you know how it is, every cent you save counts. I would like to see your bike tomorrow if you are available And if everything is fine with the report)"
Same thing michael posted about spynewbike.com on april 17 on yscam.com:
I posted a motorcycle for sale on craig's list and a couple days later was contacted by someone calling himself barry maloney Email). He was very interested in the bike but wanted a vin report via spynewbike.com. Thankfully i searched first for reviews on the site and couldn't find anything. I ran a vin report via a trusted site and posted it but he responded insisting he only trusts spynewbike.com.
I did some more research looking for scams and although i didn't see that site specifically, i saw transcripts of almost the exact script he used! his email is below. Beware people! So.... the vehicle history reports have kept coming and I finally gave in and blew $20 on one of them. Of course, never heard back from the guy. Get another guy (today) who's wanting one. I offer to send the one I got from the other guy, but OH NO! This guy's had a bad experience with THAT site and insists that I use HIS preferred vin check site.
Did a bit of research into it and LOW AND BEHOLD, it's all a scam. Scammers get commission by these sites to get them page views. So many of these sites are up now, and I get it, it's a cash cow for scammers. Troll craigslists in all kinds of cities and send out mass amounts of emails and you're bound to get a few clicks, maybe even a credit card, which I'm sure the site rewards handsomely for after they sell that information all over the web.
