The crew was polite and very professional. We had been waiting to make this investment for several years and are so glad that we found John and he's crew. This is a great home improvement. Make sure you hire someone like John and he's guys. They are the best!
I had the unfortunate experience in contracting this company to do spray foam insulation in my attic. The owner of this company, John Hartsfield, does not deliver on the commitments he makes.
Here are the issues I had in dealing with John and Spray Foam Services:
- John’s crew showed up unprepared to do the work. They showed up knowing that the generator for their equipment was not working and had to use my breaker box to connect their equipment to.
- He committed to me that he would have the project completed in 2 days, which was important as I had other work being done at my house and ultimately the reason I selected him. The 2 days turned into them taking 5 days to do the work.
- John and his employees lied to me by saying they would show up the following day to complete the work but would never show up. It would take several unanswered calls, but finally they showed up.
- A week after the work was done, I went into my kids' bathroom in the morning and it was like walking into a meat locker. I found out that his crew put up a false wall of foam and behind that wall, they did not foam insulate an attic wall backing up to the bathroom.
- When I contacted John he initially was understanding and seemed like he was going to have the issue corrected, but after several calls trying to get him to come, I had no success.
- John finally agreed to come out, but wanted to charge $1200 in addition to what I had paid him to come back and finish the work. He kept saying this was additional scope, but basically his crew did not complete the original scope of work since this was an attic wall that needs to be insulated.
- The concerning comment that John made to me while I was on the phone with him was that when we negotiated on the price, we agreed to $700 less than the original quote, so he had to cut back on the scope of work in order for him to make money. This was not discussed with me at the time of the negotiations.
- I finally agreed to pay him $500 to come back so they could fix the issue. John agreed to send his crew out for the $500, so I took the day off of work to make sure the work would get done correctly. The crew was to come between 8-10am. By 10am, the crew had still not arrived. I called John several times and received no answer. I finally got a hold of John around noon and he said his crew should be at my house shortly. They did not arrive, so I called a few more times with no answer. Finally I received a call from one of his workers at 3pm saying that they are not going to be able to make it and someone would call to re-schedule. I never received a call to re-schedule. Since, then (over a two to three week period) I have tried several times to get in touch with John, but all my calls and texts to him have gone unanswered.
What John has done is unethical and lacking integrity. I paid him several thousand dollars to complete a project as we agreed, but he has left me with an unfinished attic, which now I am forced to hire someone else and pay them so I can get the work done. This is short of being a scam setup by John to defraud his customers and forcing them to pay more money to finish the work he had agreed to originally. This has been by far my worst experience in dealing with a service provider.
