Sparks Next, Inc. Reviews

  • Jan 14, 2016

Sparks Next inc et all posted a driver/pa position on Craigslist for a three day video featuring the African American Rap Artisit Nissim for $100 @12 hours which I responded to and arrived on set at 0830 am. Soon after the day began I was told that I would not be used as a driver but rather 'fire watch' on the sidewalk.

After several hours PA Weigang Song presented me with a request for my mailing address for my check, I went to Sawyer Purman and advised him that no prior mention had been made for defered pay to which he replied that they had cash flow problems but that they would work 'something out'.

Having 'answered the call' I spent the rest of the day on set in Dumbo helping out on the sidewalk using my personal vehicle for craft services and watching over equipment and crew personal items such as lap tops and 'Nissims' bag and tri pod, plus being directed by the director Sawyer Purnam to step in to a scene with principal 'Nissim', and later during a company move to another location and reserving tow connected parking spaces for the box truck at the barber shop location near Sheepshead Bay and drove the producer Finkelman and his son home in my personal vehicle, unitl wrap was called over the radio at aprox 9:30 PM. when I turned in my radio and left.

On my way home Jessica Bookout the UPM called me on my cell phone asking why I had left and I expalined I heard 'wrap' called and in so far as I was not being used as a truck driver or as a PA the entire 12 hours, I left while every one else was settling in to dinner. She responded that I had been expected to load out, and I apologized for any misunderstanding and she told me she would see me tomorrow.

Later that evening, Jessica Bookout sent an email to everyone thanking everyone for their time and in a foot note that asked any one who would not be returning to please let her know which I availed myself of so far as I was disinclined to work on a defered pay basis with a production company on craigslist I had never worked for.

Fast forward three weeks later I contacted Ben Anderson asking when the checks would go out to which he replied , 'what checks?' .

I then contacted Sawyer Purman who assured me there were funds to pay me saying he was disappoined that I elected not to stay the full three days and that I would be payed and to contact Jessica which I did. I also reminded Sawyer Purman that the company had not yet obtained a talent release.

Subsequently after contacting Jessica, Jessica advised me there were in fact no funds left to pay me for the 12 hours I was on set and that she had no konowledge that I had been used during principal photgraphy.

Today Jessica sent me an email refusing to pay for the12 hours for $100 because I declined to stay after the agreed 12 hours saying it was unprofessional of me for not exceeding the 12 hours.

The bottom line here is this, there was prior no deal memo prepared by Sparks Next's Ben Anderson citing defered pay, but was later declared as being defered pay after the day had long been under way, and that when I was directed by Sawyer Purman to step in to the street scene with principal actor 'Nissim' during principal photgraphy, no release was forth coming for my signature.

And now three weeks later Sparks Next inc refuses to pay for the 12 hours on set. Period.
