Spark bought my account and probably thousands more from Verde Energy in 2018. They sent me a nice welcome letter, assured me nothing would change etc. I was under contract rates and I did know my contract renewal was coming soon.
We use an auto bill pay system, I get a email of ammount due and que the bank to issue the payment so I don't see the bill. I would have to go on line and look if I thought something was wrong.....but if it's normal, I just pay.
In May my bill suddenly doubled so I took a look. The rate had doubled and my contract had expired so I call Spark. The CSR tells me yep, contract price is gone and your paying the rates of last resort / no provider, sorry. Oh BTW we warned you.
Also since the contract expired during the billing cycle they retro charged the hammer rate back to the beginning of the cycle. Anything to gouge me and assure I would leave. ( Which I did )
So during the exit period over 2 cycles I used 2342 KW that should have been at .09 cpkw or about $211 and my exit bill was $514.70.
Why would you buy an account and then shaft the owner causing loss of revenue? Why even bother to buy the account in the first place? One can only assume that Spark was after a industrial customer / other account and had to take some residentials to get it
I was exposed to the Flimflammery of Spark Energy back in February of 2015, when an agent of Spark energy after asking if he could come inside proceded to flat out lie telling me I would save on my gas bill, not expecting someone to totally waste my time coming inside my home and flat out lie to me. It was that lie that induced me to sign the contract, which in a court of law would get that contract nullified and Spark would have to pay back to you any money you paid them so you would be just as you were before the contract was signed.
I paid them the first month and nothing after that, I wanted to figure out how much gas I would need to use to actually realize any savings, I figured 16 therms a month annually which is impossible with just a wall heater using gas, 9 therms was the most gas I've every used in a month and being that living in Sacramento Ca where triple digit temperatures are normal I usually have my gas shut off for 6 months out of the year. I believe this is not a scam but that it is outright fraud which is difficult to prove in court. My gas payments would have tripled with Spark
Spark Energy is such a scam. They came to my door talking about comparable rates and saving me money. After a year when the contract is up they raise your rates 4x. I paid two recent $400 bills that my neighbors who just stayed with nicor variable rate paid $100. I was charged 1.25/therm and nicor's fair market rate was .25/therm. They have horrible customer service and dont' care at all that they are ripping people off. Not sure how they sleep at night.
Nicor told us that they get complaints about them all the time. I wish we had never signed up. I have many young children and I can't pay these insane bills. When I called they said they couldn't help with my rate even if I resigned. That I had to pay this insane bill and the only way they could help was to send me "valuable coupons" in my email. They take advantage of people and their busy lives. SUCH A SCAM. I have filed report with the ICC and have gone everyone online to post what a horrible company this is to save anyone who might be doing research on them. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH SPARK!!!!!!
Someone from spark energy came to my door when I was at work And talk to my girlfriend who was unauthorized to change my PG&E bill Into starting an account with them. Now I've gotten a bill from them in the mail With a false name on it.So I called them up to get them off my account and they say they are sending me to a collector because I want to break the unauthorised account. They said That I should have my girlfriend charged with Fraud or identity theft. Auburn Ca
Gas in my area is 33 ct kw got a bill where i was charged 1dollar 27ct per kw to put it simple i got a 220$ gas bill in july when the gas company said if i didnt go though spark energy it would be 60$ dont sign anything if they come to your house they will single out the elderly saying they will get a smaller bill and if you cancel before 6 months spark energy will charge a 100$ cancel fee
Spark energy came to my house and claimed energy services was switching to a cleaner gas which was a,lie the charge you month after month on your regular bill , well in the month of September was my lowest for gas Nicor my main service charges me 17 dollars spark 425.00 dollars for what I have no idea a class action needs to be started from using fraudulent tactics to even stop them in their lies
