Dear Sir/Madam:
My name is Evelyn Shaw. I am appalled at the atrocious behavior of South Point Casino’s security staff and parking lot employees. I was treated like a vagrant and talked to in such manner that still has me feeling like less than a human being. I further feel like my money was drained as a paying patron and my reward for losing about $300, was to be told I was to leave after I asked to speak to a manager when he called me a racial slur word. I am incensed and am left feeling confused as I am a professional who works in the legal field and I am a human. I will never return to the South Point Casino’s racially-charged atmosphere ever again, nor will my family/friends! But something must occur and this cannot go left unnoticed! There was no level of integrity or sound judgment exercised that your staff. No investigation was conducted on my behalf to protect South Point from future liability litigation, nor was an investigation conducted of the video. I am sure South Point Casino’s Standard Operating Procedural Manual was not followed by this employee unless that manual allows for the use of racial slurs. I violated no rule or caused any infractions.
I was a patron at the Showroom (M-Town and More) at South Point Casino on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at approximately 8:12 p.m. On that date and around the aforementioned time I entered the South Point Casino after parking my car in the casino’s lot. I then used the ATM and sat at the bar in the middle of the casino to meet my friends. I had one half-full complimentary glass of wine and played Keno at the bar for approximately 15 minutes or so. I met two of my friends at the bar within that 15 minutes. We joked around, hugged and talked for 5 minutes and I left to accompany my friend, Carla, to meet her husband, Samuel, who was already at one of the slots. We had brief slot play and after losing $200, we paid $10 to enter the Showroom at approximately 8:50 – 9:15 p.m. We were given a free drink ticket which allowed a very small plastic cup of wine for myself, Carla and Samuel, each.
The Showroom that night was standing room only and so I stood for approximately 40 minutes in my stiletto high heels and my feet were killing me. After I could no longer take the pain, in an effort for all of us to allow time to rest our feet because we were standing for so long, we decided to exit the Showroom to the casino floor for more slot play near the Showroom so that we could sit down. I used the ATM again, we played slots, talked and laughed. I also joked around with other well-known friends that were standing outside of the Showroom and one of those male friends offered me brief support because my feet were hurting so badly.
Carla and Sammy decided to leave and did leave at approximately 9:45 pm or so. I re-entered the showroom to say goodbye to friends and was asked by a friend to purchase 2 shots which I ordered from the Showroom bar. When the shots arrived I was unable to pay for them because the credit card and debit card that I had on my person were declined. When I learned the cards were declined, I went into my laptop bag that I was carrying to grab my telephone to transfer funds onto both cards but my cell phone was missing at that time. I retraced my steps when a friend that was at the bar that I initially was at when I first arrived told me that he saw me set my phone on the bar in the middle of the casino across from the Cage. I re-visited the bar to inquire about my ‘lost’ cellphone. The bartender informed me that yes, there was an I-phone that was left at the bar and it was turned in to Lost & Found (but he failed to inform me however that it was left at the bar 8 hours previously) and this bartender instructed me to approach two security guards that he pointed to near the Cage and he stated they would take me to Lost and Found.
When I approached those guards (a Latina female guard and a Latino male guard with Vitiligo), I informed them of what the bartender informed and instructed which was: (1) an I-phone was located and turned into Lost & Found, and (2) that security would “take” me to Lost and Found. I was informed very rudely and sarcastically by the guard with vitiligo that: (1) “…this is lost and found.”, and (2) “…that I-phone was lost and picked up over 8 hours ago, what are you drunk?” That guard said it was one other place we could check and to follow him. I told him feet hurt and that I could not walk very far, nonetheless, I walked with him and my cellphone was not found in that area either. I asked the guard was it all all possible if I could give him my work number in the event my cellphone did turn up. That guard replied: “No, we don’t do that plus, I thought you said you can hardly stand?” I told security guard that I needed my phone for business and I was then asked immediately again, very nastily, rudely and condescending by the frowned-up security guard with Vitiligo: “Are you drunk or something!?” I responded by asking to speak with a manager. He replied:. “Just like a typical ni*r wanting to complain” I was shocked and visibly bewildered at his reply and I again asked him to speak to a manager but he immediately said:. “I am the manager.” and proceeded to get on the speaker attached to his shoulder and called in some sort of complaint of a “drunk patron” and began to give my description. He then told me to leave the premises or he had the “permission to put a bullet” into me. I asked for a manager again but he basically ushered me out while I was still checking my bag for my telephone. I walked around to the Showroom then to get my friend and this guard followed me everywhere I went until I left out to check my car for my cellphone because at that point I was praying that my friend was mistaken about seeing my phone at the bar.
Outside of the casino, I removed my jacket and entered my car and found subsequently found my phone between my car’s seat cushion. Suddenly, someone that had exited a white pickup truck parked and blocking my vehicle had used his hand or something else to thump on my vehicle very loud and bark at me: “you aren’t driving are you?”. I told him “Not as of yet, I am parked waiting for my friend to give him a ride home.. Do you need this space?”. He replied “No”. I asked:. “And why are you knocking on my vehicle and asking me questions?” The South Point Casino employee replied: “I was informed you were drunk by a guard in the casino.”
I re-entered the casino through the door I had previously exited to hurriedly grab my friend because he was not answering his telephone and my phone had died at this point. I aimed to grab my friend and demand that we leave urgently because I felt ambushed by hotel staff and security who hold no medical license or toxicology certification to deem me drunk and I was called a racial slur.
None of my actions evidenced me being under the influence that night prior to entering the premises, nor while leaving. I was on the premises for a time frame under 2 hours. Hotel cameras would evidence I had one half-full glass of wine at the bar and a small standard complimentary plastic cup of wine in the Showroom – inebriated I was not! Rude I was not! Belligerent I was not! Unsteady I was not! But I WAS called a “n****r” by hotel security and ushered out of the hotel like I was a criminal or trouble maker after I asked for a manager after being called a racial slur. This false accusation of drunkenness was to cover the fact that the security guard did, in fact, call me a ni*er and when I asked for his manager, he blatantly lied and exclaimed that he was the manager and then IMMEDIATELY called in and gave my description into his walkie-talkie as if I had done something wrong. I WAS HUMILIATED, HARASSED AND THEREBY FORCED TO CATCH A CAB BECAUSE SECURITY WOULD NOT ALLOW ME IN MY CAR NOR ALLOW ME ON THE PROPERTY FOR NO REASON AT ALL!!
August 9, 2017, Mr. Richard (d**k) Whitaker, Director of Security at South Point Casino. He called me to get my side of the story after I left voicemail for Shelley Essex. Instead of listening to what I experienced at South Point, he attempted to steer the conversation to a bias front and accused me of calling the security guard I described to him as an “immigrant”, when in fact I stated: “…the guard with ‘vitiligo’ called me an racial slur…”. d**k got loud with me while I was telling him that I plan to sue South Point because of its egregious behavior toward paying, paying and intelligent patrons, d**k then ended the conversation abruptly and hung up but not before saying: “Do what you have to do Ms. Shaw.”
This all began because I asked security at South Point Casino if they had found my cellphone which I was told was left and seen at the bar.
I am livid to say the least!!
Please help because South Point isn’t. South Point Casino is condoning its employees use of racial slurs towards paying patrons and then are allowing the employees (after being asked to speak to a manager) to lie and have the patron ushered out by lies, harassment and threats for no relevant reason.
