Sound Community Services, Inc. Reviews

  • Oct 20, 2016

This local non-profit has been in the news too many times to county. This time the allegations are inappropriate sexual behavior between clients and staff, unsanitary conditions, used medical equipment along with a registered sex offender as a case manager and a CEO who is unqualified for the job (lying about his degree).

For more information check out The Day Newspaper for indepth details about this agency that has been having great difficulties for countless years with nothing being done other about these issues.

Do not use this agency for any mental health, therapeutic or addiction services. They are the best state health insurance rip-off scams in the State of Connecticut. Check their revenue and recordkeeping audits and documentation for more details.

Sound Community Services new administration is a great disappointment and rip off to their clients and staff. They have fired about 1/3 of their staff requiring consulants to come in to assess the problems tthey have been having with Human Resources issues. The clients are seen for less than five minutes and the insurance companies, usually the State is billed for at least thirty. Clients have had their prescribers, individual therapists and case managers fired without prior notice, some in one month, having to start with a new team of providers. The administration has asked for staff input and to date not one suggestion has been made or any changes made. Clients have therapy sessions for thirtty minutes only complaining that when they get to a break through it is time for the session to end. Clients can NEVER go to the same floor administration sits on and forbid to enter that area. Clients never interact with administration and/or supervisors. This place is very unprofessional and their records are filed wherever. The medical staff see clients in public areas. Their cases are discussed with other clients. This place is to treat those with mental health and addiction disorders and the staff knows nothing about the disease of addiction. There is no training on pertinent issues that this place deals with on a daily basis. Administration receives bonuses (last one totalling $40,000 and staff cannot get a cost of living raise. Staff is making just a hair above the staff at the Reliance House, who is their counterpart in Norwich and recenntly received an award for the being one of the best employers in Connecticut. The medical director of Sound Community Services earns $250,000 a year and the CED earns $200,000 annually. The CEO and his administration have no interaction with clients and the CEO was asked to leave his State position when it was learned that he fabricated his application reporting that he held a Masters' Degree which he has never produced yet if you look at his LinkedIn profile, it clearly states that he has one. Would you say he lies? You decide. They have a registered sex offender working there as a case manager. This same person was hand picked by her supervisor and Senior Director of Programs to attend the Recovery University where she met a married man, had sex with him in the back of a work car and now carries his baby. This same woman has had her children removed from her care by DCF and the court. Like Shawna Holzer stated, "this is a job, not a career". If you are looking to work at a place that is uncaring, unprofessional and quick to fire you (especially if you cross the CEO) then this is the place for you. If you care about the clients, their recovery and well-being go to another place where that is welocomed and appreciated because it is not at Sound Community Services. They work overtime firing those they do not like and there is no second chance. You go in theo morning and before your coffee is made, they will tell you your position has been eliminated. People have been on vacation and received calls that they need not return because they don't have a job to come home to. You go in in the morning and at the end of your shift, you have been fired, no warning, no reason, no explanation just "we have eliminated your position". Don't be fooled by Leslie Barttholomew. She smiles in your face while she is stabbing you in the back. Gino DeMaio has no relationship with he truth or loyalty to long time employees. His concern is him and him alone. Tamra Rodriguez is their puppet and will fire you in the blink of an eye as well. After years of being at Sound Community Services, Sue Himes of Human Resources was asked to leave knowing it was just a matter of time, because she cared. She was not Gino's idea of what a "manager was about" and Leslie showed her an email by accident stating so. What a place to work. Policies and procedures change along with staff titles. The benefits suck big time especially the health insurance which costs about a mortgage payment each month for a family. You can ask for help, complain, complete the Tiny Pulse's which are to remain anonymous (but are not) and nothing will change and they don't care if you know they DO NOT CARE about their staff and/or clients. Administrators with a conscience have walked off the job after a brief period of time when they learned of the corruption with the Bridges contact along with Behavioral Health Homes grant because they could not agree with the way things were handled and how money was moved around and services were not implemented. This place is ashame and there is always a threat of being fired. It feels like the land of misfit toys. If you are one to question their policies and procedures and corruption, rest assured you will be looking for another job. It is not worth putting your name to one of their applications. As you can see though if you are a criminal you can work there, the sex offender still does. Don't be good at what you do. Don't care for the clients, don't advocate for them and don't make any suggestions for change or you will be at Shaw's Cover at CT Works looking for a job. Don't say you have not been warned.
