I recieved warning pop-ups on my computer saying it was infected and ready to crash. It provided a number to call and it appeare to be from Microsoft so I called.

They said they were a microsoft tech support service and could fix the problem but I had to pay $299.00 for the service and protection for the next two years.

Here is the number the tech gave me to call for any further problems -1-888-389-7614 ext.402, and his name - David Mathews. Another number given was 1-866-682-0647.

A Complete Scam

When doing a driver scan with my legitimate DriverAgent account, I noticed an update in the Google Search Results for DriverAgentPlus, which had the same company name and company Icon. I downloaded the program and did the scan. After the scan, I was told to enter my customer key to complete the repairs and my valid key was rejected, but there was a 24/7 support line to resolve the issue.

When I called, the call quickly went from resolving the registration key issue to wanting to scan my computer for security and performance vulnerabilities, which was a red flag for me, a tech with 24 years experience. When the "tech" began showing me the performance monitors in task manager and stating the standard CPU spikes were irregular, I knew I had a scammer. Since I knew they were compensated by volume of as many people as they could get signed up, I decided to keep the "tech" on the line for as long as possible to waste his time, while researching his company "SolidTechies" on another computer on my network. Then I allowed him to remote connect to the first PC and monitored his efforts on the second PC. I have multiple security redundancies on the first computer, so I felt I could mitigate with the second pc anything he did on the first.

Short story long, I kept him on the phone for an hour and played dumb, while he rambled on about "the IP" and how my browser history was stored on my PC for 10 years and the CPU threads were actually active connections made by hackers and the background processes were actually malicious programs installed without my knowledge, when they are actually ancillary programs for the main installed program. He also showed me the Windows services that were not running on my computer and that was another problem; it is not uncommon for some Windows services to not run - if I am not connected to a client / server environment, I will have no need for those services to be running.

The piece de resistance was when he screen shared his "security monitoring software", which showed multiple windows of impressive batch programs running and EVEN a window showing it was logging into the CIA database to get information about my security issues and a mug shot of some seedy looking Russian, who was apparently the hacker who was presently hacking into my computer.

At that point I was tired, and tired of playing when he started talking about their 200-500 annual support programs and that only their security software could protect me, so I physically terminated the active internet connection and proceeded to tell him what a dog and pony scam he was running and was full of it. He yammered a weak explanation as to why he needed to continue, I told him he was full of it and ended the phone call.

This is absolutely a scam and while seeming impressive command line calls to Control Panel applets, Windows Services and Device Manager (all easily accessible in one window by right-clicking on My Computer and choosing "Manage") through the RUN command on the Start Menu, it is merely just eye candy to trick the unsuspecting into believing what they were doing was high end. On another note, I did this with another scammer and that call ended with his supervisor getting me on the phone and asking me how I knew it was a scam and what they could do better, as well as offering me a job with them at 30k a month.

Run, don't walk away from this company!!!.

Solid Tech

After a week of signing up with Solid Tech I had several complaints. Here is my email to costomer service rep.

Hi Ted, I have had your service a little over a week, and have called to receive assistance several times. I have been thinking about sending you an email ever since I joined. I figured that things would get better, I am not one to complain very often. As time went on things did not get better and now there is so much to say about each incident and the outcome it would take forever. I have most of it written down, not the dates or the techs names. To start off I have some questions. I do not know what your policy is regarding the identity of the Tech or if I am to receive a report about the work done and the outcome, it would be nice to know. Out of 5 of the techs that worked on my computer two of them left me a survey report to fill out. To omit most of the small complaints I will get to the point. I have a detailed version of this but I do not have a lot of time. Long story short, the 1st Tech that signed me up was contacted thru Norton security because I needed help reinstalling their program into my new computer in the process I got one of your techs which pretty mush ignored my problem with Norton, and reviewed my computer after a while he informed me that he thought that my computer was infected and that I needed a lot of work done. This was upsetting to me because I had just spent almost five hundred on the computer. He proceeded to sign me up for your program, I did not know for sure if I had the one- time payment in my account, in the process I ended up with 3 of the same charges on my account and was blocked. After all this, I was ready to pull my hair out but the tech would not give up while I was getting it straight with the bank he said that he would start working on my computer, after about 3 hours on the call the order goes thru. So the tech said that he was going to hand me over to another tech and he would finish the work, he informed me that it would take some time and I was to say off until he was finished.

So the new Tech takes over and works on my computer for about 1 hr. I was surprised. He left me a report of all the work that was done, that was great. As I was reading the report I noticed that there was nothing said about testing for infection and the Norton program was down loaded but it was not activated so I had gone without protection for quite some time. He also left all kinds of trial programs on I did not ask for and had to remove. I had no way of reaching this Tech and he did not leave me a survey to fill out so I had to call again and talk to someone new about infection problem. Most of the Techs do not speak very good English some are worse than others. Back to the subject, the new Tech takes over and starts a scan on my computer 3 to 4 hrs later my computer is free, so I log in and expected to see a report or something about the outcome there was nothing, this upset me because I was worried about it. Not knowing if it was infected or not I started scanning myself to see. I found one of the top of the line Spy Hunter and they show 4 threats 2 of them with serious security risks. I have disabled them for now because I do not want to pay more money for this product too. Please contact me ASAP.

January 12 I contacted Driver Dective and had it install new drivers. They scanned computer and told me my computer needed immediate rrepair and pointed out various problems, which I wrote down. Since they were with microsoft I thought it was a trustworethy company. I was offered a 1 year service for $349 which I refused and than he asked if I was a senior and offered me a $249 service for 1 years which I did accept. Little did I realize how much stress this would case me. The tech referred me to solidtech in montreal, canada. They told me that it would take 4-5 hours to complete the work. I checked the nxt day and nothing was done .I tryed to call numerous times and only contascted someone at 9:30 pm. I told him I was dissatified with the service and wanted ti cancel and he told me I could not cancel because I thought it cost too much. I had checked into the problems I was told I had with the computer. I found out that some of the things I was told were not true . THey pressured me to continue with the instillation before I would cancel. THe installation was not completed until Jan.15, 3days later. I continued to email and call customer service. I was not given considerate custoimer service. Sometimes it took them 2 weeks to respond . ON JAN. 29 I called and found out my account was cancelled. That really upset me that no one ever contacted me. Of couse to them it was cancelled so I would not incur and more costs, which seemed strange to me. I called and they told me I should have read the contract . I coulod not rread the contract before they startted working on my computer because I was referred to the by a third party.Thye were not going to return my money because I had alread had technical work done. I tryed to get across to them that even if I had the techincal work done no one was responsive to my call or requests and were not willing to help me. Than I decided to refer this issue to my credit card company . I would never refer anyone to that company although maybe some people hve had good service from them. I was totally dissatifed with their customer serviceand that is good reason to request a refund . Their contract protects them so read any compannies contract before you deal with them. this wsa an awful excperience. MY credit card company is working with me . Marilyn Zimmerman MInnesota

Me thinking it was about driver detective called the number then next thing i know this guy is telling me my pc was not safe, had multiple security risk and said he could fix this and keep my pc safe with a 2 year subscribtion. sounded good i went foward after seven hours and nothing being done and multple disconnection's from the so -called tech working on my pc "which we was disconnected because the tech would take so long to do anything the connection would just time out" i decided to cancel service. I recieved an e-mail saying i had to "FAX" them my order ID # and description of why i would like a refund. I purchased service on 10/12/15 called to cancel that very night, Faxed them the info they asked for on 10//16/15 and have yet to hear anything or even receive an e-mail. actual amount paid was $389.00 this is by no means a small amount of money to me and i plan on doing everything possible to get my money back. STAY Away from this company!
