I recently just came home from prison after haing served 20 years last week on appeal and I got my first computer. Not having any knowledge of pop ups, I accidently clicked on something that crashed my HP lap top with Windows 10. The icons which appeared were all malicious. One connected me to Solid Tech, a now known ficticious computor support group. They spoke to me on the phone and contolled my computer as if they were helping me get my data back. They then asked for my credit card information and said they needed a one time fee of $335 in which they would cure my computer and give me tech support for a full year. Suspicious this was a scam, I refused to give them any credit card information. And I see that was a good call, being that there have been other reports filed on this web page from people who have been similarly victimized. While now I have to suffer the lose of my computer until I could hopefully get it back and running, I am thankful you put these low life scum bags on blast.
Purchased software from this Co. and then was told only way to repair computer was to hire technician at $300.00 and did I really expect a $30.00 software package to repair my computer?? REFUSED to refund mmoneyo. Do NOT give these people your $$. You will NEVER see it again!
After converting to Windows 10, messages kept popping up from Solid Tech that my computer was in danger. I was under the mistaken idea that Solid Tech was a part of Microsoft.
After clicking on the messages, I called the number given and ended up paying $224. to have my computer cleaned up. This clean up would include a year's worth of virus protection and technical help. I talked to these people about three times and finally decided they were doing more harm than good. At one point I asked for a refund but they refused.
I realize now that this was a scam and I was foolish to bite. But they get you when you are vulnerable and afraid a virus may make your information available. At one point the fellow said they were in Canada but I'm wondering if that is true.
