You are not able to cancel once you sign up. I opened a free trial for this online fax service and then decided to cancel the service the same day. First of all, when you go to the billing section on the website it sends you a page that says you can cancel by clicking a link. There is no link that works.

The only way is to call the 800#. I tried but they never answer the phone. So I sent an email to customer service (the email that the site provides), and received no response, but lo and behold, they charged my credit card and you cannot delete your card number in your account. Stay away from SmartFax or J2 Global.

Typical online free trial service. Most are difficult to cancel, this one seems impossible.

Phone number will not connect to a live person and ends with leaving a message to no one.

Website used for canceling does not recognize your information

Plainly put - disappointed! Fax transmission is slow - but it goes through after a while. But the main issue I have is trying to cancel this service with SmartFax - it was a drag to get it finally done!!! I tried to cancel my service on 4/22/18 - as instructed in their Support Center window. The Cancellation Website does NOT work!

This is what I got when I tried to cancel on thier website - several times for a month:

I email the webmaster the same day, and no response for a month! I requested cancellation via email, no response, and they charged my account on 4/23/18 - they completely ignored my request! I finally called the Start Your Free Trial phone number, and I got a hold of someone (Paul). He finally cancelled my account, but said SmartFax does not issue refunds, even though they ignore my cancellation request for that month! Find a more professional e-fax service; I do not recommend SmartFax at all!

Line Suddenly Was Unable to Receive

Put in a helpdesk ticket and got no response back. There was someone's voice mail on my fax line aka no fax handshake. The next day it was fixed but who know how long this was going on for? Cancelling is quite the ordeal. I think I was on hold for a total of an hour between three reps. I'm usually good with accents but the first person was unintelligible. I'll be watching my account to make sure they don't charge me. And yes some companies (including the gov't) still want you to have a fax instead of emailing stuff so your pretty much stuck. Ended up getting a multifunction copier with fax imbedded.

Concerning SmartFax Service:

If I knew what I knew today I would NOT have signed up for their service. The monthly cost is $6.95 per month even if you do not use the service, and more if you do use the service. I called their number to cancel and the person answering the phone said that their "cancel Service Server" was down and they could not do that. I emailed the company and they stated they could not cancel the service thru email. When I login to my account there is not place to cancel the service. The way I had to cancel the service was to report my CC stolen and let the bank issue a new card. I guess my lesson on this is before signing up for a service understand how easy it is to cancel.. ie MIssing Cancel service on website... Stay away from that service. I think a new law should be put in place to keep companies from doing automatic renewals without customer approval. This would eliminate 90% of the companies that are slipping charges on your CC or Account without you wanting that service. I guess my standard practice will be to have the banks cancel my CC's each year to avoid this deceptive practice by companies that have specifically designed the process to their advantage..

I signed up fro the free trial option of Smartfax.com for a client of mine that needed fax services and their fax line was not working. I did not have time to work with someone for the billing portion, so I just added it to my card (figuring we could change the card later). After getting it set up and operational we found a service that was half the price and double the number of faxes so I set them up with an account on the other users site (this time with thier billing information). When I went to Cancel the SmartFax it was Crazy. They walked me through a series of prompts and questions. After filling all this out it gave me a screen that said a button should appear shortly and if it did not then I would have to call the 800 number they provided. Of course it never showed up, so I had to call the number. This linked me to a call center in India with the RUDEST person ever. I gave him the faxe number and then he told me to hold on while he processed my cancelation. after 5 min on hold he came back on and asked me to varify the last 4 of the dredit card number. I gave it to him and he told me to hold on again while he processed the cancelation. I am not sure what he did during the first 5 min, but they put you on hold to see if you will get frustrated and just hang up. This way they will not have to cancel anything. I was placed on hold for several times and then he finnally provided me with a cancelation number. He said he was going to email me a confirmation and I never received anything. Ihave read several scam reports where they have kept billing, so I am going to cancel my card and have it reissued. DO NOT USE THIS SITE!!!!!

I wish I researched SmartFax. I've gotten burned!! I used them for a while, everything was ok, until my credit card expired. I went to the website after getting the reminders that my card was expiring, and I put in the new expiration date, which was all that was changing from my card. Well something didn't work, and I couldn't do it online. I sent in a "help ticket". And a few days later I received an email to call customer service. So I called their customer service and they said my new card didn't work. I didn't understand that, maybe my bank knew something about them that I didn't, and I should've gotten the hint. So I said if you can't charge my card, then I'm going to have to find a new company. Well, they said "sorry call your bank..."They locked me out of my account, and I went to a different company. Well a few weeks later....BAM!!!

My account gets charged for TWICE the amount that the autowithdraw was authorized. So I call them and say: "Why did you charge my card, when you told me you were unable to do so?" Then I'm telling him, why so much. They tell me, because I have a lot of data in my account, and I need to delete it! I THEN say, I've BEEN LOCKED OUT OF MY ACCOUNT!! He says, well "I'm sorry." I say refund my money. He tells me about their "no refund" policy. I'm irate, but I'm like, cancel my account! They send me an email that my account is cancelled. But THEN!! A month later....THEY CHARGE ME AGAIN!!! FOR ALMOST THREE TIMES THE AGREED AMOUNT!! Same thing, I have too much data, and I have to delete some of the old files. I've BEEN LOCKED OUT OF MY ACCOUNT FOR 3 MONTHS!!! This place is a scam!! Big SCAM!!

I needed to fax a medical paper quickly and chose Smartfax to send it. Big mistake! After I was finished and looked for a way to cancel the service (before the free trial ended), I realized there was no way to cancel on the website. I emailed the company and requested they cancel my account.

I noticed a $50 charge from them a few weeks later with an email explaining they will not cancel the account via email. They completely igonored the fact that I was charged a $50 fee for a $6.95 service. I called the company and asked to cancel and was told they could not do it. They kept asking for more personal information and said they couldn't cancel unless I went through all of my bank account numbers, credit card numbers and social security number.

These people are completely unethical! The person was obviously from over seas and refused to let me speak to a supervisor. I was livid and hung up. I have contacted my bank and they are currently taking action against this company.

What a ripoff internet fax comany!!! They give a free trial which is impossible to cancel with the instructions they give. After entering info into smartfax.com/cancel it says to hit the chat button below to complete cancellation. Unfortunately, there is no chat button. I emailed customer service saying that I want to cancel my free trial but they only got back to me after they charged my card. They wrote to follow the instructions on the website or call a toll free number to cancel. I then emailed them and said the website gives wrong instructions and there is no chat button!!! They responded by saying they can not cancel via email. I called them today and they finally cancelled the service. I said that I want a refund so they transferred to a "supervisor" who never picked up the phone. Was on hold for 30min. Called back and the same thing happened again. Then they sent me an email that they will charge me prorated for this month. Bunch of Indian scammers! Never deal with this company! I will be sending those dirtbags the link to this warning.
