We have rented boats from SL Marina every summer for 5 years and each time we get the Manager of the marina who has always been rude to us. We ignored him everytime figuring he's just an unhappy man. But on August 29th he went too far. We had out-of-town guests and had a full day planned. I reserved a boat back in March when they annouced the dates for the blue way festival. When they canceled the festival we called 4 weeks ago to confirm the boat.
We told the manager that we'd like to water Ski & Tube. In an aggrative tone (which has always been his tone with us) he told us the boat we reserved can't pull a skier. We asked if he had any that could pull a skier he said yes but it's more expensive. We told him that would be fine with us and asked for the upgraded newer pontoon. We asked if it came with a ski rope pull or do we need our own. He said yes we have ski rope pulls. Over the phone it sounded as if he was making notes or entering the information in the computer so we felt confident that he had made the changes to our reservation.
When we arrived the morning of the 29th we were shown the worst of the boats, the one with all the gaffer tape on the seats. Confused we asked can this pull a skier? In his classic rude attitude he said no. We explained our conversation and he immediately went into no I never said that, we asked if he had the newer pontoon that can handle it? He said no it's reserved (probably by us but he wouldn't bother checking any sheets or the computer he just wanted to argue). He said we can switch to the knewer pontoon since the guy hasn't shown up yet (again, it was probably us but he was so aggravated we dare not get him more aggitated we just wanted the correct boat). so we said ok, does it have the ski rope hooked up or do I have to do that.
Well that set him off and he bacame right out rude, no we don't have ski ropes and again we tried to explain our conversation weeks before and were cut off with his rude "I don't have time for this". We asked if he knew where we can get a ski rope, he threw his arms up and said Lincolnton Marina, we asked how much would that be? He answered, "How the hell would I know". Very upset now we said to him that this isn't the first time we've rented from you and you always have attitude. He said well it will be the last time you rent from me, we said no problem you won't ever see us again.
We just walked off defeated, I sure wanted to say some choice words back but didn't because there was a large family with kids around. Although our boat day was ruined, we have heard from our SLV neighbors Soap Creek Marina has a great customer service experience and more reasonable boat rental pricing. We will be renting a boat from them next week. We understand anyone can have a bad day especially with the stress this year has brought too many. This just seemed to be a pattern of service to us.
