Watch out for these guys! They are selling yachts but act like used car salesmen. Jack Curran sold me a boat and the day of closing we fond out there was an air conditioning problem. After taking off from work, getting a rental car, getting a babystitter I was told that I needed to leave the boat so they could repair it in the morning. After telling them I had no ride, they asked me to bring it to 31st Street Harbor and it would be repaired in the morning. I do this and took the train home. The next day I come down to the boat and it is still not fixed. I brought the boat home and now they will not come out to fix the air conditioning. The Sales Manager Michael Porreca wouldn't even communicate with me in regards to it for 5 days after. He told me I should drive the boat back to them for 15 hours instead of having their technician drive a hour and a half. The Seller and myself even offered to pay for the services. Skipper Bud's basically closed on this boat knowing there was an issue, made promises to repair the boat and then now that I am gone with the boat will not live up to their promises. This was a fraudulent transaction and I will now be forced to sue them to prevent this from happening to someone else. Stay away from this Marina or you will be sorry!
I had almost the same identical experience. Once they get your money they act as if you will never buy another boat again (maybe that's because they know they're going to leave such a sour taste in your mouth that you won't) or refer anyone else to them. I have bought one boat from Northpoint (IL) and one in Sturgeon Bay (WI). It is EXTREMELY hard to believe that these two places are actually owned by the same parent company. It's a disgrace to the fine people in Sturgeon Bay, WI. I bought one boat from Northpoint and had the worst experience ever. 10 years later Skipper Buds in Sturgeon Bay happened to have a boat I wanted and I had an absolutely wonderful experience with them (though I almost didn't even stop to look due to my last experience in IL). I thought maybe Skipper Buds had finally gotten it's act together, but when I went to buy my third boat from Northpoint again and couldn't even get myself to follow through at the closing (went somewhere else) because the writing was so indelible on the wall before the sale was even complete!!!! Go anywhere other than Northpoint. I'm not saying avoid SB all together because of the great experience in Sturgeon Bay and maybe Oshkosh is good as well (don't know from experience). Either way it's a shame that they are both called by the same trade name.
