I recently purchased a second hand Skier's Edge model S4 in mint condition from its first owner who registered the unit. To be fair the manufacturer website has a statement that says "before you buy a second hand unit call us". Of course, I did not see this 3 click page until their customer unfriendly refusal to sell me parts still used in today's model.
These machines are built extremely well and strongly. As an avid skier, I needed a machine like this to stay in shape year round. The machine's actual life time is many years beyond that which the company unilaterally schedules "obsole". This is a customer unfriendly, usurious method of gouging. Imagine if you could not buy new tires for your 15 year old, perfectly good car with very low mileage..... you would be screwed. Well, same here. I'm screwed. They won't sell me the essential belt for my unit.
The machine has one major consumable component- a big rubber belt. Their web site insists this must be changed every 2 years, yet, they won't sell me one unless I "upgrade" for $440 first. Then, I can buy a belt for another $330. When I asked how long it wold be before the "upgrade" would be obsoleted, they said they didn't know.
So, possibly, If I spend the $780 for a rubber belt, 2 years from now, they may hit me again with an arbitrary requirement to "upgrade" again. This is bad business by the maker of a great product.
I'm sure, as in other report replyies, Skiers Edge will have a long winded excuse about safety. But its bogus. These machines are built like tanks. One of the best made products I've ever bought =first or second hand. The only things you'll ever need to replace are the belt and the roller wheels. But, these crooks will not sell them to you.
