I stopped into this wine bar with some buddies one day. It's located off Hwy 80 in Auburn. The bartender (Jennifer) goes over the wine list, she has it memorized. I know wine very well and I have questions beyond the small description on the menu and she is stumpped and can't answer and gets a little more rude. I ask if she is a Sommelier and she says no, she looked like she didn't even know what that was. The more questions I asked the ruder she got. Before it got to that point she tried to sell me the owners wine and was not interted in selling the other local wineries that are in there. I asked to taste some other wines and she told me no because she didn't have any others that were already open, I could only taste what was already open. I found that to be cheap. I found her not only to be incredibly rude and uneducated about wine but she knew nothing about what she is suppose to be selling. We went to a local restaurant bar across the street and when we told the bar tender our experience he said "oh yeah, she doesn't drink". Is this really who should be working in a bar? No wonder she was so on edge, she has no idea about wine. She is selling every customer a bill of goods, zero wine education or taste for wine. Not that it matters but the owner is a little shady from what the neighboring businesses say also. Someone at the bar overheard our conversation and said she is aware of his affair and he is not to be trusted and that Jennifer is probably aware of it and that is why he keeps her employeed there, she has his dirty little secret.
Bottom line, this wine bar bartender knows nothing about wine, won't let you taste wine unless the bottle is already open, is pushing her owner's wine brand and not interested in selling the other local wineries wine and she apparently has been seen at AA meetings and its confirmed on her social media. The fact that she is rude is not a rip off but its definitly the icing on the cake. Not to mention as we laughed about it at a local bar in a restaurant we found this place has quite the bad reputation on many levles. I would not trust this wine bar for good wine, they lack education. Buyer beware, don't buy unless you try!! That is if they will let you. If you are looking for good customer service you won't find it there and who knows what you are buying unless you know your wines well. There is a great wine bar around the corner from them and the difference between the two is night and day, take a walk into Carpe Vino for a glass of wine and don't waste your time at Sip Wine Bar in Auburn.
