Siegel Suites Reviews

  • May 5, 2019

I've lived here over a year and my overall experience has been decent UNTIL Jan 2019 when I moved to a different apartment unit. Upon moving, I was notified that rent has increased - which is no problem. I was also notified that there was a new mandatory wifi charge included in rent.

Also - no problem! The complaint I have is that the wifi has never worked for me in the entire year I've lived here. Therefore, I feel it is completely unfair to be required to pay for something I can't even use. It's not strong enough to even browse the net or connect to my printer, let alone update my phone or use Netflix, etc. And when I bring this to the staff's attention - they could all care less because they say it is just "company policy".

Before they required only *new* tenants to pay this wifi fee, I was actually paying for it voluntarily, while living in a different apartment on the opposite end of the building I'm currently in. This proves that the wifi has NEVER WORKED regardless of where you're residing in this building!!

But I'm baffled as to how they can get away with charging their low income tenants for something that doesn't even work! Anotger thing which I think is ridiculously unfair, is that they only require this wifi charge for NEW TENANTS ONLY.

What Happened to The Bill Of Rights ?Particularly The 4th,5th and 6th Amendments Of These United States and The United States Constitution? Illegals Are Working on This Property!!!! Shame pucking on Elderly Vets!!!

ON TUESDAY February 21St, 2017 , there was loud knocking at the door, I'm sick, wasn't dressed and asked who it was. (There was no fire, flood or medical emergency no endangerment of my person) they said management. I asked what did they want. Response: Open the door. I ASKED IS THERE a work order? Open the door it's metropolitan police, we're doing a welfare check. I couldn't see any police , no badges or name plates at about 7:30a. m-8:30a. m, Tuesday. They continued hammering at the door and a female voice again told them get the key. I told them don't enter I'm not dressed. I started dialing phone numbers fearing harm( I'm a disabled 64 year old female Army vet). I reached a friend on speed dial and they heard the commotion. It wasn't until then they left. I found out today the parking lit had 13 police cars in it. They had the wrong apartment and should have went to E106 per employees where they did have a medical emergency. People are being killed in Las Vegas that are unarmed and police are not being held accountable. Several Yeats ago at a different apartment complex worse occurred and couldn't get an attorney. I was not read Miranda rights, wasn't told why I was being arrested, was taken to CCDC, fingerprinted then released, when they found they had the WRONG person, no RECORD and a current Sheriff's Card. Today we received an eviction notice per the owner, even though No police report was made on us. No complaints on file with the Front office.

I booked a 2 bedroom apartment for April 16, 2016 at Siegel Suites MLK on April 13, 2016 through SR, a lovely lady who works in the 'sales' office. SR tells me that the apartment will cost $373.77 for the week. SR tells me to stay in contact with Siegel MLK on April 16 because my room is only on hold. She tells me that if I don't call and keep Siegel MLK informed or if I don't check in on the 16th, the hole will fall off and the apartment will go back on the market for rent. Got it. I have the apartment for April 16th. If I don't call on the 16th to let the hotel know I'm still coming, the hold on my account will fall off and the apartment be put back on the market as available for rent. Simple enough. Right?

WRONG.

On April 15, I found out that I got a much nicer apartment. I won't need the room at the Siegel Suites MLK. The thing to do is call them and cancel. I called them. No one answered the phone. But, Siegel MLK;s wonderful robot voice told me to leave a message and someone would get back to me. So, all I gotta do is wait for someone to call me back. Right?

WRONG

When no one got back to me in a few hours, I started searching online. Hum. Siegel Suites MLK has a few numbers associated with it. Okay. I've got a few minutes. I sit down and call all of them and leave messages. Then, I call the rep I booked the room with and get 'the real number'. I call that one and okay, the night service answering machine asks me to leave a message for Siegel Suites, MLK. Hum. Leave another message? Okay. No answer. Leave a message. This went on April 15, 2016 ALL DAY LONG. No kidding. I called and left messages until 11:58 p.m. But, it's cool. Someone will call me. I'll cancel the reservation. I'll get my money back. It'll be all good. Right?

WRONG.

No one EVER called me back April 15. No one ever called me back April 16. But, hey. It's okay. Because there is a fail safe. SR told me there was. All I have to do is not show up and the apartment will go back on the market. Right?

W. R. O. N. G.

Fast forward to April 17. No one has called me from Siegel Suites. I've been charged $373.77 for an apartment. I call all the same numbers. I call the sales person and get new numbers and I call all those and okay, I leave more messages. Now, I want a refund of my money. Of course I do, I mean, I've called a million times and I have tried to cancel the reservation. I can't cancel my own reservation so I need someone to actually answer a phone so I can canel. That's normal. So, I wait for someone to call me back. No one ever does. It's cool. Someone will call, they'll see I've been calling and they'll give me a refund. Everything will be cool. Right?

WRONG.

It's May 3, 2016. I've been calling. I've been disputing. I've been trying to understand how in the world I got myself into this bloody, never ending nightmare. Then, the light comes on. I'll call the corporate office. I call. I speak to a woman and politely tell her that this is nonesense. She offers to call Siegel MLK. I tell her, very poltely, in so many words that I think that is like trying to call the moon to order pizza. Does she sympathize with me. Apologize that I've been going through this for almost 3 long weeks. NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

She tells me I"M being rude.

Okay.

I talk to someone with a G name and she tells me what all the other humans have been telling me. I didn't call to cancel the reservation so I don't get money back. Siegel will be happy to rent me an apartment for a week. Back to square one. After almost 3 weeks. I should love this, huh?

First off weeklies have a bad name due to the reported activities of the renters; however, the owners and managers are worse.

I am residing in a weekly do to unforeseen finanicial difficualties following a lay off.

Siegel Suiets seemed to be a bit scammy at first; but, it was either stay at a weekly or live on the streets.

They charge about $26 a day plus a bunch of hiden fees.

They charge you a convience fee of $10.95 per payment. If you pay for multiple weeks at a time they charge you convience fee of $10.95 per week so if you pay for a month in advance they charge you an additional $43.80.

If you are tight on funds and paying by the day they charge an extra convience fee of $5.00 per day and god forbid you have a regular job with day time hours and you are not in their office by noon the day rent is due thy will charge you an extra $15.oo late fee perday and lock you out at midnight that first night.

If you pay by Credit or Debit card they tack on an additional $9.95 processing fee.

In short if you pay by the month it breaks down to this:

Base Rent: $764.40

Payment convience fee: $ 43.80

Credit/Debit processing fee: $ 9.95

======

Total: $818.15

If you have a pet add an additional $100 "non-refunable" pet "deposit" plus $10 a week. This is in fact an additional fee since it is non-refundable it is not technically a "deposit" is refundable.

They run background checks on all tenants; including rental, credit and criminal histories and report to the LVMPD the names, ages, birthdates, social security number, drivers license plates, make, model, yrea and color t help the LVMPD keep tabs n the residents and will allow them warrantless searches of apartments upon request.

They can be rude and condesending; everynow and then they will work with you if you speak to them well in advance.

All they want is money and are not afraid to harrass you to get it. Case in point; I work nights and got home at 7am this morning and laid down to take a nap and over slept. Rent was due at non and I set my alarm to get me up at 11:30 so I could go pay. Well I slept through my alarm.

Heres the scary and criminal part. At 1:10pm; 1 hours and 10 minuets late to pay rent, I was aoken by the manager standing over my bed yelling at me to wake up and wanted to know when I was coming in to make a payment. Keep in mind this was done with out my consent and nearly ended badly as due to the neighbor I sleep with a pistol next to my bed. Luckily I recognized the managers voice right away.

Thats right they took it upon themselves to open my locked door, walk into my apartment, enter my bedroom, stand over me as I slept and woke me up to get paid.

Speaking of my "bedroom" these are actually studio apartments but they call them "junior 1 bed room apartments" when all they have done is add a 48 inch high drink rail to seperate the bedroo from the living room. By law and bilding code to be considered a bedroom that room but contain both a window to the outsde and a closet. These only have a closet.

If I could afford to pay the rent per month rather than per week it would be cheaper to rent a regular apartment but bing on a limited incoe I am unable to do that.

The way they rip you off on rent is explained below:

Let's say the rent is $189.05 per week with a daily rate of $27.01, and you pay from the 19th of September and want to be due first of October. That's one week at $189.05 and 5 days at 27.01 which totals to $135.05, however, when you say due the 1st, they charge you for 6 days instead of the 5 for a total of $162.06. When you arrive of the 1st the don't charge you from the 2nd they as they should, they again start from the 1st at 189.05 which equates to 27.01 per day and you are over charged that amount every time you pay rent. In my case, I'm over-charge $54.02 per month.

Additionally, the water system on this property is so old that more often than not you're either without cold or hot water.
