We were visiting Italy a lovely country last year in June 2015 and at 19.55 pm we stopped off at Largo Monastero. We were advised by the local people who were sitting around the area to pay for parking even though it was 5 minutes before the end of the time in which we needed to pay for parking(20.00 pm ) We went and tried to pay in the machine which was just next to our car, the machine said 19.57 and WOULD NOT GIVE US A TICKET . We went back to tell the few elderly men who were sitting on the pavement what had happened and they lifted their arms in dismay ( we couldnt really communicate with them) However beauiful the place was , it was small and so a few minutes later w e returned to our car to see that at 20.00 which is the time written that you DO NOT NEED TO PAY we were given a parking ticket. This was not a nice feeling especially as we had tried to pay and we were so close to the "closing" time and NOT characteristic of the wonderful holiday we had in such a beautiful part of the world We received a letter from Sicilyby car telling us they were taking 50 Euro from our credit card and sent a copy of the parking fine. This was the first time we had seen or heard from them. I have since written a letter to the Italian police explaining what happened and am now writing to complain and warn others of their poor and unjust behaviour. .
