I was a customer of Shurgard Purley way as i was in temporary accomodation and needed storage for all my personal items. When i first initially moved my personal items in the storage i realised i didnt have a lock and didnt have any money at the time to buy one from reception, i explained this to a collegue who was there at the time he explained to me he will use one of their locks but if i need to access my belongings i would need to come during opening hours so they could allow me in my unit. Shortly after becoming a customer i was in arrears as i could not afford my storage and my bills so Shurgard stopped me from accessing my belongings untill my account was up to date. After a few months I discussed with a member of Shurgards team in Purley way a settlement price as i also spoke to my local council and expressed my concern regarding my arrears with Shurgard and loosing my items, my council offered me a gararge to rent which was cheaper. Once i collected enough money for the settlement price i then went to shurgard and removed all my items, i didnt have much time as i had to collect the keys for my nw gararge at a certain time. I immediatley noticed my 3 TV'S which were in the front of my unit were no longer there i continued to bring all items of mine in the removal van and transferred all my items to the new gararge. When i arrived at the new gararge me and my partner had a thorough search of my items and realised other then the TV'S other items such as my laptop, ps3 and a box of clothes and trainers had vanished. I contacted the store at that moment and it was closed so i sent a text to a mobile number which Shurgard had communicated with me previously i asked them to contact me ASAP as items of mine were missing. Shurgard failed to contact me and i had to contact them the next working day to find out what now happens. I spoke with someon over the phone and all they said to me was to come into store and collect the insurance documents and make a claim which is exactly what i done. Now 4 months later i have contacted both the Marsh insurance company aswell as Shurgard asking exactly hat is going on with my case to be told by Shurgard that the store manager had no idea that items of mine had gone missing and there had only been notes of damaged items (which was never the case) and i was told that the declaration of theft could not be written as the store manager was unaware aswell as telling me that my unit was not locked on the first night so they can not take responsibility for my items going missing as they could have been taken from that first night. Marsh insurance has said to me that because i had no lock and the manager has refused to write a declaration i can no longer claim for my items which vanished. Now I am disgusted and im not aware of what i should do now, i followed the company procedure by making them aware of any stolen or damaged items, i have crime reference number having made an online report when i realised my items were gone, ive had many conversations with different staff members regarding my stolen items and yet Shurgard is refusing to replace my stolen items. I have now lost alot of valuable items which i really needed at this point in my life, i am studying and the laptop i had would have been an advantage for my educational purposes ( i also had a labour video on my laptop which i can never get back), My children do not get to watch their TV nymore and i have been left with no answers and not even an apology. Although Shurgard has cameras everywhere!!!! I've been told they can only go back 5 weeks from todays date which i believe is stupid. The only explanation i have come up with is Shurgard, whoever it may be has stolen my property and i should basically get over it. Please if anyone knows of anything i can do now please do let me know as i am not stopping here. I have sent various complaints letters/ emails to Shurgard Purley Way and Shurgard Head office and still have had no reply. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO STORE YOUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS AS YOU CAN NOT BE CERTAIN TO GET YOUR ITEMS BACK. IVE BEEN ROBBED ASWELL AS MANY OTHERS AND DO NOT BECOME ANOTHER VICTIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
