Sexton apartments is looking for accrediation under BBB.
I lived in Carlyle courts apartments, which is under Sexton apartments from mar 2014 till Jul 2015. I paid $400 for security deposit which they say as per their policy only $100 is refundable and $300 is non refundable. So while while i was waiting for the $100 deposit back, I got a bill having couple of false charges totalling $506.61. The bill (email) also mentioned that I had to pay the bill within one month otherwise they will report it to credit bureau.
Here are the charges:
1> I was charged $225 for painting one wall in the apartment which i never did. When I moved in that wall was already painted brown while other walls were all painted white. I am not a very picky person about colors. Since nothing was broken and apartment was clean, I didnt had any complains when I moved in. On my last day, when i came to office to return my keys, I asked the property manager to come with me to inspect the apartment but she said she will do it by herself next day. It would have been a lot easier for me to explain her if she had inspected the apartment with me. Now when I called her to dispute the charges, she is not willing to listen to me. and keeps repeating that its my fault and keeps accusing me of painting the wall. i dont have that much money to paint one wall in the apartment. I told her to contact the tenant who used to live before me but she is unwilling to co-operate. I got hold of her after 2 weeks of calling the office everyday. This is very frustrating.
2> My second charge (~$280), was charged for not turning in the last 30 days notice on time. Since July'14 was my last month, On july 1st I came in to the office to pay my last rent and fill up that form. But they sent me home saying they didnt have any printed out forms at that moment and they will send it to me directly to my apt next day. I asked them if i will be charged any late charges, they assured me that they wont charge me anything since i have already notified them verbally. I also asked them to make a note on my folder/profile, which they did at that time. I got the form from them on Jul 3rd evening. I went out of state for july 4th weekend and came back on 9th and filled up the form and turned it in on 10th. At that time also i asked them if i will be charged they said they they wont because there is a note on my file that says i notified them on july 1st. I have physical proof of it as well. The office staff and property manager remembers all our conversation and accepts that i notified them on Jul 1st. But they say nothing is in their hand. I dont know what to do. I live on limited income and cant afford to pay for the things that i havent done. The office manager is not even willing to listen she keeps ignoring my calls. Today they hung up on me when i was still talking on the line. This is very embarrassing and disrespectful.
