Sara Kershaw, Starbucks District Manager in the cities of Torrance, Hawthorn, and El Segundo uses deceptive and unethical business tactics to seperate employees who she personally dislikes. While working as a manager in El Segundo I was involved in over a dozen conversations with Sara, and overhead conversations she had on her phone with other business partners regarding other Starbucks partners, baristas, and employees whom she used hate language to describe their ethnicity. Sara is openly a member of the LGBT community and did not speak about sexual orientation but did speak about other partners appearences and race using verbiage such as: "Poor" or "Dirty" and often said things like "Don't hire another black".
I was very outspoken with Sara regarding her business practics and ethics regarding discipline with other partners (aka: Sales Associates, Supervisors, Employees, Baristas) and I was often asked to do unethical things which I refused to participate in. On several ocassions I was asked to avoid hiring an individual based on their ethnicity or race which I opossed and did anyway. As in any business if your boss does not like you, they will find any and every single way to seperate your employment. While I was disciplined for things other supervisors and assistant managers in other stores were not disciplined for. As a supervisor with a lot of additional responsibility (My manager in El Segundo and my manager in Hawthorne would have me do interviews) I worked exceptionally well, however Sara would send in her friends to complain about me and also send in store managers from other stores to come in and critique the smallest things (such as a small coffee spill or a small puddle of milk on the floor). These reports would go back to Sara and I was eventually terminated.
If you are seeking employment from Starbucks Hawthorne, El Segundo, Torrance or anywhere in the South Bay be aware you may immediately become a target if you refuse to compromise your ethics and morals for Starbucks District Manager Sara Kershaw.
