San Joaquin Valley College Reviews

Hello. I studied Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting online at SJVC’s virtual campus (Visalia, CA). I am very upset because I maintained a 4.0 gpa during most of my enrollment (1 year). I was serving on active duty in the US military while I maintained that gpa, and I made the deans list several times. Since the start of the program I wanted to have a clinical site (externship) underneath my belt so that it made things easier on me upon graduation, because I knew I would excel academically. The staff kept telling me to contact career services but career services is trash. They dont help the students! Not one bit. I do not live in the state of California so being an online student makes it much harder to really get that student, staff, and faculty connection. I would never file such a report if this stuff isn’t true. I am almost thirty and all I wanted to do was finally receive a degree and actually accomplish something, but I’m being held back.

I’ve been in touch with several sites on my own, and I’ve received NO luck at all with ALL of the sites. They either don’t reach back out or they say they don’t need medical assistants, they’re only seeking nurses. The last lady I spoke to over the phone said to me "let me see if they are willing to accept any students”. I wasn’t sure how I should have reacted to that, because at that point I was starting to think that no one wanted to work with me. Now as a veteran, it’s such a shame to think that I laid my life down for this country (all veterans have whether you were deployed or not), and someone can’t even allow me to practice 160 hours in their facility or company. It’s mind boggling, because I truly not to place racial barriers on things such as- these people don’t want to work with me because im a person of color (a person of color is anyone who isn’t caucasian).

This school said I also owe them $2K and I told them they’re not getting a dime from me- simply because there was never a statement in the beginning that showed I’d owe 2K. I used my financial aid to pay for my books which were $1K and that’s all that was brought to my attention! I asked my financial aid advisor (Edith P) about this and she couldn’t provide me any documentation to show that I would owe 2K in the end for both parts of the program. I’m now going to be in debt and getting my credit f**ked up because of a irresponsible and unprofessional little school that’s been open since the 70s. Totally pissed off. I wouldn’t recommend this school to any of my battles (Army lingo), or people I know. I’ll continue to put out the red light instead! And I will be getting it removed off of my credit report. YOU TRIED IT, SJVC! You owe all students externship/site placement!!!! AND STOP TRYING TO RIP PEOPLE OFF!

Id properly look into the HVAC program and its flaws it has since been 2 weeks with no results or findings as to why the rooms are uncomfortably crowded, PC's are limited, Why have we not done any of the essential hands on of HVAC not even the basics of hvac have been covered things such as use of A/c gauges , recovery , charging systems finding electrical problems these are all tasks that will be preformed daily in this industry and can cause bodily injury, death or harm the environment if not performed right in which i have not done any of these things hands on. My experience has been 10 straight months of in class book reading on my own with zero safety or hands on training. After complaining the dean Mary Phillips began to retaliate by harassing me and other students about uniforms, drinks, wondering, ect. Mr. Rugano just ignored the situation and told one student qoute " what do you want me to do" leRoy Brown the admissions advisor lied and made it sound like a great career training opportunity once signed up and passed the inital introduction classes 4 months in the promgram fell apart and management done nothing i am seeking a reduction in my student loans for time loss and money loss

I attended san joaquin valley college in salida ca. First of all, I was under the impression that I was going to have 2 loans to pay back but when I received my first letter from Sally Mae and it said I had 4 loans. I was so upset. They don't seem to have much credentials and when the time came to study for our exam to be certified in billing and coding, every Friday we were supposed to study with a teacher but every morning she made us type for 2 hrs. When the class was only 4 hr. After we would type she would ask us about the extern. All us students agreed that we should be studying for the exam! So mind you everyone in her class failed. We were so upset! She didn't even tell us what to study. And I really don't feel like they taught me anything about billing and coding. I mean all I had was one class on it. Also the clinic I did my extern with told me that they have never hired an extern. Which I made clear that I wanted a good place that hires their extern so that I would have a chance of being offered a job. They ate always firing and hiring new people constantly. And I was told by a teacher that every employee is part time except for 1. They have not helped me with finding a job or anything! After 1 week of me graduating I never heard from them again, and I graduated in 2012. Now I'm in debt $20,000 + with multiple loans that were never agreed to, I only had 2 loans I was told! Something needs to be done about this! I can't believe that this school is ripping vulnerable people off and getting away with it! There sold be consequences for treating their students like they don't matter! Please, someone who has the ability to take further action! They can't get away with this!
