Close to 2 years ago, I went to Sambuca 360 for a night of dancing, as I had done on many occasions since Sambuca originally opened as Martini Park in 2007. During the night, the bartenders there allowed other patrons to charge drinks to my tab to the tune of $500.

I disputed the tab but ended up paying anyway. However, I did not feel it fair for me to pay a tip on top of this inflated bill, since that would reward unethical treatment by the staff who allowed the unauthorized charges. When the manager at that time noticed that I had not added a tip, he threatened me with being "banned" permanently from the establishment if I did not also pay a tip.

Reluctantly, I agreed and paid $100 in cash on top of the inflated bill and left. Because Sambuca is a popular place for business happy hours and corporate events, I figured that I would let it go.

It wasn't worth being "banned" over $100.

Two weeks later, I returned only to find that the club had banned me anyway. When I call to find out why, I am never given a straight answer and whoever I end up talking to never have any idea about the situation.

Later, I find out that I am not the only one. Many people have gone there and have had their tabs padded, phantom drinks added, etc. Their own security staff currently admits that there has been a long practice of randomly banning patrons permanently from the establishment for reasons including personal relationships, race, and ego in addition to what amounts to extortion in my situation.

This long practice continues with the explicit support of Kim Forsythe, the owner and CEO of Sambuca Restaurant Group, and this was explicitly verified just this past week by one of Sambuca's employees, who could only say "Kim pays my bills" when asked as to why nothing can be done.

I have a lot of friends that own bands that play at Sambuca, so I have waited a LONG time and attempted on several occasions to amicably resolve the situation without resorting to this. However, after attempting once again to at least get an explanation this past week only to have management refuse to speak with me, I have no choice and would like to spare others this type of treatment.

I find it extremely disappointing and sad considering how long I had been a customer there and how many thousands of dollars I have spent there over time the very first week of its opening.
