My doctor called in a new prescription for me to Sam's Club Pharmacy in mid October 2016. I didn't get a call from the pharmacy to let me know that my prescription was ready so I called and was told it would be ready by 4 p.m.
I drove over at the scheduled time to pick it up, and to my disgust was told it wasn't ready as expected. I waited close to an hour and then was told that they didn't have the medication in stock after all.....They said it would be ordered immediately and that I would receive it the next day.
The next day arrived, and again...NO call from Sam's Club pharmacy on the status of my prescription. I called at around 5 p.m. and was told that they had it. I drove over, and they said it would take about 20 mins before it was ready.....I waited, and was finally notified that my script was ready to pick up. I went to pay and discovered that the price had jumped to $136 for a 30 day supply. I asked if there was a generic version, and was told that this was the generic version...OUCH!. The pharmacist then explained to me that if I upgraded my regular Sam's Club membership to their Advanced Membership card I would receive a 60% discount on the drug, so I upgraded, which cost a $100 a year, and figured that the extra membership costs would be cancelled out in a couple of months by the savings on my prescription.
Mid November comes around and I need a refill, so i call my doctors office and again they call in my prescription to Sam's Club. 24 hours later, I had still not heard from Sam's Club Pharmacy if my prescription was ready to pick up, so I called and was told it would be ready by the time I got there.....I drive over, and ask for my prescription, and am told that it wasn't ready!!! I ask when it would be ready and was told 20 mins. I decided to sit and wait instead of shop, and ten mins later they call me to the counter, and tell me they DON"T have the medicine available, and that they will order it and it should arrive in a couple of days....By this time I am furious.
I cannot beleive that this same senario has happend over this particular medicine twice in a 30 day period. I also can't believe that they don't stock it as a regular drug when someone has upgraded their membership just so they can receive the discount solely for this particular high blood pressure medication.
The pharmacist stepped in at this point, and said that she would check if Wal-Mart had it in stock and they would tranfer my prescription over to them if they did. I specifically asked if my Sam's Club discount would be honored at Wal-Mart Pharmacy, and was told they would ask. A few mins later they called me back to the window, and said that Wal-Mart had the drug in stock and that they would honor my discount. I drove over to Wal-Mart, and my prescription was ready to take, but they refused to honor the discount, and said that they did NOT tell the pharmacist any such thing, and that the cost was going to be $136. I had the pharmacist call Sam's Club's Phamacist, and naturally NOTHING was resolved regarding the cost. I then had Wal-mart transfer my prescription back to Sam's Club, and am now still waiting to get my medicine.
I feel, that this particular pharmacy has shown me that they don't want my regular business. Their method of dealing with customers is shoddy at the very least, and they lied about the discount at Wal-mart. I have never used Sam's Club Pharmacy before this experience, and after my membership card has expired in January, I will not be renewing. I paid a higher price for the same drug at CVS, but as they say....You get what you pay for, and I have to hand it to CVS...I was never told it wasn't in stock and they even sent me automated phone calls to let me know when it was ready. Now that's customer service!!!
