On June 16th, safe lite was sent to my house by geico, I had a very minor ding instead of fixing it the tech cracked it about 10 inches. Then decided to inform me, well, sometimes that happens, my supervisor will contact you for a replacement, when I was contacted I was told it would cost me 250 dollars to replace it, Geico also said well it's not 100% sometimes it happens and I will have to pay outta pocket to fix it. At no time on paper or verbally was I ever informed there was a risk of ruining the windshield. If it is that easy to walkaway from liability then this opens the door for gieco and safe light to miss information and rip off its customers in a joint effort, and allows safelite to go around and bust everyone'swindows and say well looks like you need a new on, so what go's from a $60 fix becomes a $250 deductible on your insurance. Flat out scam, dishonest and quite the company of crooks, we never even had the opportunity to wigh the risk.
I have a 1991 lexus ls 400. While dring along miramar rd in san diego in april 2015, the windshield was shattered by a golf ball hit from the nearby golf course on mcas miramar. I took the car to the nearby safelite repair shop on dunbrook rd. In san diego. The interior on the oem windshield was clear and clean despite the age of the car. Same for all other windows in the car.
The windshield was professionally replaced in a quick and efficient manner. I was not given a choice in the replacement windshield. I assumed that safelite would provide a good product. They had done so in replacing a windshield in a car owned by one of my sons in colorado cprings.
Within two or so months after the windshield installation, i noticed a white film building up on the inside of the windshield, but no other window. I tired to clean it with bleach, newspapers, window cleaners, vinegar, etc. I was unable to get rid of the haze. Nothing worked. I went to the safelite shop. They agreed that there was a haze on the inside of the windshield. They gave me a spray can of safelite window cleaner. The cleaner did not remove the haze. It just moved it around. The technicians said the haze was caused by the degassing of the plastics on the dashboard. I note again there was no such haze on the 24 year old oem windshield.
safelite glass filed on september 7, 2007, i noticed a strong similarity with my problem. In my opinion, it appears that there is something wrong with the glass used in the replacement windshield. The haze becomes a serious problem with low sun angles in the morning and evening. It is actually a safety hazard because i cannot see out of the windshield. I all my years of owning a car, i have never, ever had a similar experience.
