I have been recently job hunting and posted my resume on job boards such as careerbuilder.com. I received an email from a recruiter which is not strange when looking for work. The email below: "Thanks for publishing your job profile! To: Our client, a digital developer business, is currently hiring part-time and full-time Escrow Managers, and we would like you to consider this position. This is a home-based job reporting to a supervisor in the head office. Position duties include working with the current client base, performing daily billing/collections procedures under supervision and updating the client details in the system. The salary is up to $51,000 annually plus incentive bonuses paid biweekly; all employees are eligible for benefits including combined insurance, 401k, paid time off, and more.
A choice between full-time and part-time schedule options is available; no previous experience in this field is expected: the company provides an extensive online training. All applicants will be requested to pass a criminal background screen and a short probationary period paid separately. This position is already available, we're most interested in those who can start ASAP. If you would be interested, the following link will take you to our application portal with more information about the employer and the Escrow Manager position including our website and other credentials: Click here!
Thanks for doing business with us. Sincerely, Merrilee L. Heath HR Manager Alpha Recruiting, 3925 Ferrell Street, Brookston, MN 55711 Update Profile | About our service provider Sent by [email protected] in collaboration with Constant Contact Try it free today" This email didn't seem strange or too good to be true. The salary is about what I was looking for and was only a few thousand more than what I was making at my previous job. I also know working from home is becoming more popular and more doable. I clicked the link and found the company name. I could not find the company online. Nothing. First red flag. The next step in the process for getting an interview was filling out an I9 and signing a paper to authorize them to perform a background check. Second red flag.
That is a lot of information to give to a company (including SS number) and strange that is what they required to be possibly considered for an interview. I decided to look into it more. I did find the company Escrow Pay based in London with the company number 07143602. Safe Coin Escrow is supposed to be their company opening in the U.S in Philadelphia. Everything online with Escrow Pay matched with the information they gave me, such as their address, director name, and employer number. That made me feel better. But still was hesitant about filling out an I9. The main reason I remained hesitant is because I could not get a hold of anyone! While the webpage stated that I could contact a Kelly Granger at (484) 482-8028 and email them at info.safecoineschange.com, I could not get a hold of them at all.
I tried multiple times and I even responded to the recruiter who initially emailed me. Again, nothing! This is the number one red flag. Everything online appears just fine. But anyone can make something look legitimate online, in order to get all of someone's most sensitive personal information. I have yet to hear from an actual person. Also, Safe Coin Escrow is not one the Better Business Bureau website. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar situation with this company. They seem to be a ghost online. Nothing good, nothing bad. Always be careful about giving out your social security number and if this is a legitimate company, they should be ashamed for not communicating and being understanding of such sensitive and personal information.
