Chris Schultze of S&G Renovations is a con artist. In spite of our 10+ years acquaintance and friendship, it's clear from the very beginning of my construction project with him, that he was setting me up for a fall. I sat across a table at a diner to discuss the job scope and watched him complete a construction permit jacket, which he never filed, pocketing the money that was in the construction budget for it.
Then he proceeded to do the scope of work, which later was expanded to include dry wall work and demoing of existing walls, all requiring permits. Later, he told me he was hiring an architect to do necessary drawings for the drywall work done. That never happened.
I paid S&G Interiors based on our trust for a total of 3 construction installments, where the work was verified by an inspector from my loan company. The final installment included an advance to purchase kitchen cabinetry, appliances and other materials, included in the construction budget. Schultze, took the money and ran to Brazil, as it turns out, giving me a story about his wife's sick relative. In spite of numerous texts, phone calls and emails, all went ignored, along with a letter from an attorney demaning restitution.
Schultze is an ex attorney who was apparently disbarred from practicing in NY, so be wary. He comes off as very sincere and ammenable but that's just to get you to lower your guard. My broker also complained of work that S&G did where they grossly overcharged his client who he referred.
