My husband and I have a rescue we support with donations. We have supported this particular rescue for many years. I will not name the rescue as they fear further harassment and bullying by a group called Rotten Rescues on Facebook.
After watching what happened to our friend, we looked at the page extensivley. It appears this page was created for the sole purpose of harassing and bullying others. Face book states that no pages can be created for this reason, but they do not appear to have done anything about this.
The page operates on reports from others about rescue groups. Sometimes it looks like the reports are made by someone with a grudge or another rescue. But the people who run Rotten Rescues just take the info and post it as fact and that is what happened to our group. Suddenly my friend, who has been in rescue work for 20 years, was getting hate emails and threats and was being ridiculed on this site by the site people and people who look at the page. And if my friend would post in defense she was brutally bullied and mocked.
Keep in mind that this page had no evidence. Never visited the rescue or met the animals. Did not contact the fosters or supporters. They just went with what was said and it became a mob mentality. And it happens over and over to other groups.
I have never seen anything like it. It is the opposite of rescue and is not how you would deal with a rescue problem anyway. They should offer support or education or resources.
Someone needs to look at this entire page and do something. Report the page or contact your state regarding online bullying and harassment.
it is a very sickening page. You can read the cruelty and nastiness of the comments and know it smells bad.
If you are a lawyer and read this I have given this site permission to have you contact me. I think people need legal help. My husband asked a friend how we find out who runs the page and he was told it would be a subpoena to Facebook so any lawyer that loves animals please contact me and I can direct you to the rescue.
