I have found what is possibly CANADA’S WORST lawfirm – Ross & McBride, located in Hamilton. This firm, led by Mark Abradjian, makes even the worst lawyer jokes seem like complements from on high!
I hired this lawfirm 6 years ago to handle a straight-forward landlord tenant issue. The case was such a slam-dunk case that the "Managing Partner" told us, "the only way you can lose the case is if you don’t file it". I was told that the case would cost no more than $25,000 in legal fees and could net me anywhere from $250,000 to $1 million. I should have known then the statements were ALL LIES – they are lawyers and their lips were moving! This arrogant "Managing Partner" even told me that if I didn’t want to pursue this case I should sign it over to him so HE could take the money! Little did I know then that this one comment was a fore-shadow of my entire ordeal which was about to unfold!
From the beginning of my ordeal, Abradjian and his staff seemed VERY ill-equipped for the task. I gave them thousands of dollars for a retainer which they promptly burned through like flash-paper. I – the client – was tasked with doing all the work to lay the case out for them. I submitted a literal BALE of paperwork and evidence which I soon found sat in their offices untouched for over A YEAR. When someone did finally begin reading my file, they acted like they had never seen a legal case before. Abradjian, who was supposed to be my attorney, soon became aloof and completely unreachable. I made dozens and dozens of calls, few if any of which were ever returned.
Very little was done on my case for years. I received invoices for "services" which I paid but rarely received updates on my case. When I did receive updates, they usually came from a law clerk who couldn’t answer any questions and who clearly didn’t understand my case. My attorney – the one who was billing me an ungodly, obscene rate for "legal services" -- couldn’t be bothered with speaking to me. Soon I learned that my case had been assigned to an associate.
The associate assigned to my case was Renata Kis. She seemed more concerned with her public image than my case, the proverbial "I am woman, hear me roar! I had no choice but to try to work with her but it wasn’t easy or cost-effective. Everything opposing counsel did seemed like it was new to her – a surprise. I tried to get the attorney I thought I hired to take my case back from this over-glorified student but he could no longer be bothered with my case. Just when I thought the handling of my case COULDN’T POSSIBLY be any worst, my case was passed to YET ANOTHER "lawyer" in the firm.
This "new" lawyer was even worse than the second one. His name was Samuel Nash and right from the beginning I realized this guy was incompetent. I did not want this guy as my lawyer because he had no experience handling cases like mine. I demanded someone else but was told "no one was available". I asked if my next assigned "lawyer" was going to be the building custodian! Everything with this Nash character was a surprise and an emergency. I knew my case was in big trouble when he began bragging that he was competing with his boss, Mark Abradjian.
After about 6 months, my case was again passed off. This time it was passed back to Kis. This was when everything started changing. My "slam-dunk" case was all of the sudden fraught with problems. I had gone through thousands of dollars in legal fees which had FAR exceeded the $25,000 I was quoted and was now being told I needed to cough-up even more. It also seemed the lawyer who was now in charge of my case had just found new case law which was going to cost tens of thousands more. Getting fed-up with the demands for more and more money, I told these incompetent shysters that I needed to see some results for my case before I would cough-up any more of my hard-earned money. That is when s**t hit the fan...
Renata Kis then did her best to pick a fight with me – the client. She began to take offense to everything I said and did. I quickly realized that I had been led down the garden path by this unscrupulous firm. There had never been any "slam-dunk" nor had there been any REAL chance of me ever recouping ANY of my losses. I realized I had been carefully guided down a gauntlet. The defendants in my case destroyed my company and Ross & McBride had fleeced me for everything I had left. I once again voiced my discontent with the handling of my case...which they answered by removing themselves from my case. This in fact destroyed my case. I no longer have any chance of recouping anything and to add insult to injury, I now have to pay the defendants for robbing me.
I strongly urge anyone considering Ross & McBride as a law firm to represent them to seek other counsel. I seriously doubt you will be successful in your lawsuit if Mark Abradjian, Renata Kis or Samuel Nash represent you. Abradjian is a prima donna who brings "the mark" into the firm with his smooth talk and charm. Kis and Nash follow-up and complete the con by making it all look rosy until they bleed you dry and then dump you along side a distant country road somewhere. I suggest that you RUN – don’t walk – to another firm to represent you. I sincerely wish I had!
