I signed up for a 90 day subscription. After 90 days I paid $150 to upgraded to a two year subscription. Rosetta Stone continued to charge me every 90 days for the original subscription too, and refused to refund the charges.
Today I contacted Roseta Stone's customer service department concerning a Spanish Language Instructional Software program that my sister purchased in 2008. Her daughter was planning on studying Spanish but quit after the first week.
The software package was very expensive. The copyright date is 2007 so it's 9 year old software that was only used a couple of times. I was calling to ensure that my nephew would be able to use it. He's taking Spanish in High School and needs all of the help that he can get.
The software was purchased from one of Rosetta Stone's authorized dealers on eBay. Apparently Rosetta Stone does not back upit's authorized dealers.
I provided Rosetta Stone's customer service department with the activation cvode of the software and was told that the code was fraudulent and that my Sister had not purchased the software from an authorized dealer.
In other words I was called a liar by their staff. I have the box full of software and the card with the activation code on hand. This was NOT downloaded software.
Do not buy from this company! If your computer crashes and you have to reinstall you will be unable to do so. Look online at all of the complaints!
There are many alternatives available these days and for the price that Roseta Stone charges you can hire a tutor for your child.
Alternatives: Dualingo, Fluenz, Rocket Languages Premium, Babbel, Simon & Shuster Pimsleur Comprehensive, Transparent Language Online, Living Language Passport & Living Language Platinum to name a few.
For simple vocabulary tests there are many free sites online and very cheap software available at outlet stores such as Dollar General. Example: https://mylanguageexchange.com
$150 to $200 can buy a lot of software or tutoring. If you spend that money on Rosetta Stone you are buying NOTHING! You are leasing the software for one use. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE IT ON ANOTHER CONMPUTER OR SELL IT WHEN YOU"RE DONE WITH IT!
My finance bought me Rosetta Stones Spanish language learning CD set some time ago and I only recently opened it to begin my lessons, at which time I found out that they require me to use an on line identification code to down load the CD to my computer. The code is non-existent. Why a code and why isn't it available?
I telephoned them and was told that they can't give me the code and that they no longer support my version. Not even just the code for a CD! If they are worried over possible CD sharing, they could easily have the buyer register at time of on line purchase, or, leave that open to when the lessons were to begin, not just shut it off as non-supportive. It's only a CD code for my computer, not an on line learning program.
They told me my only recourse was to purchase their newer version if I wished to proceed with the lessons.
We were not told at the time of purchase their CD's would only work on Microsoft's XP system. That's like buying music CD only to find out it only works on one system. I'm using Windows 7 and I have several XP programs that work on it, so why not this one?
They then sent me an email hyping the newer version which did not contain pricing. I called them and was told that they had a special discount pricing for people like me whose CD learning system did not work. How nice is that...Buy one that doesn't work and have to buy another that does work!
Apparently they have had a lot of issues from others like me whose CD lessons did not work and their only answer is for me to spend between $49-149 for the newer versions.
I bought a Rosetta Stone course to be paid in installments. After I received the kit I tried to pay off the balance. It was not possible. They have no more options to check or make other payments. Just by phone and the customer service is horrible and they want to sell you other courses instead of helping you. I did not received any more comunication.
On middle of september, 2015 I received a letter dated on August, 2015 saying that they were not able to complete the automatic payments and asked me to send a check. I sent the check and they cashed the check.
Some days later they took funds from my debit card. That means that I made two payments in one week. I contacted them by Facebook and was told they were going to investigate and contact me. It did not happen and my post in Facebook was erased.
This means that they can take money from your credit/debit card without your authorization. People should be aware of their methods before signing any deal with this company. Also, the quality of the course that I acquired is not worth. Just repetitive material.
