Rollie's Car Care Reviews

  • Feb 2, 2017

I had my daughter's car towed on Saturday, 1/28/17 to Rollie's Car Care by Dennis who owns Rollie's Car Care. When he showed up to my house to tow the car, my husband and myself were there. He tried to start it and said, "No, it's not the battery, it's fully charged." My husband then helped him push it into the street so that he can hook it up. When he was done hooking, we explained to him that my daughter's FATHER was going to pay for it and DO NOT do any work until you call him and let him know what is wrong with the car. Dennis agreed as he let us know that he is closed on Saturday and Sunday so it he wouldn't even look at it until Monday but would call Monday morning. He also never had me sign anything when he towed the car.

Monday comes around and my daughter's father never recieved a call.

At 2:00 pm they (her father and his significant other) called Rollie's Car Care as they hadn't gotten a call to inquire if they even had a chance to look at the car. It was at this point that they were speaking to Dennis and he had told them that he was working on it and that right now the total was a little over $400.00 . Needless to say, they were shocked and told him to "stop working on the car, we are on our way". When they arrived at Rollie's Car Care they were told that the amount owed was $400.08.

When they questioned who authorized him to work on the car, as first he said "that's just the way I do things", when they pressed further and asked why he didn't call as he was asked and he agreed to with an estimate of charges, he said "the guy I picked it up from told me to just fix it". This is absolutley false. They then asked for a detialed receipt of the charges and wanted to know what he did to the car his answer was he didn't have to give them a receipt that they just needed to pay. They refused to pay the $400.08 without a receipt. Dennis then told them that he replaced the battery, (which he said was completley fine), cleaned the spark plugs, and the tow.

They agreed to pay for the tow and the battery but didn't feel that him charging labor was warranted as Dennis from Rollie's Car Care NEVER called to get authorization or to even tell us what was wrong with the car. When they again questioned as to who authorized him to work on the car he then started screaming at them that he was going to "take out the battery, rip out the spark plugs and flood the cylinders". He still had the key to the car so they ended up calling the police as they felt that he may damage the car.

The police came and Dennis talked to the police first, (this was his father's business and it is a family business that he bought from his father that has been in the town of New Lenox at least 30 years if not more), the police then talked to her father and his SO. The police told them to just pay for it, they told the police they wanted and asked for a detialed receipt for the work that he had done and that is when he threatened to do the damage to the car so that is why they called the police. The officer asked for their ID's, ran their names, and then told them that "maybe your just not used to paying these prices in our town, this isn't the city ya know". They were upset and felt that they were getting no where.

They again explained to the police officer that they wanted a detialed receipt and they would pay for the car. The police officer said "This is Rollie's, he can do what he wants, and if that is returning your car to you the way he got it, well, that's what he can do." At this point they felt all hope was lost and pleaded with the other officer that pulled up to just get a detailed receipt and that they would pay. The first officer threatened to arrest them as Dennis was screaming that he wanted to report that my daughter's car was stolen. (we are all confused by this). He reluctantly agreed to write a receipt. They paid for the car of $400.08 and he threw the keys at them and told them to "GET OUT". They took my daughter's car and brought it back to my house and told my husband and myself what had happened.

Now, I need everyone to understand that we lived in New Lenox for 17 years and did business with Rollie's Car Care up until about 6-7 years ago when we bought new vehicles. So my husband called thinking that he can get to the bottom of this. Dennis got on the phone with him and instantley started yelling, when my husband asked him who authorized him to work on the car and asked why he told her father that he was the one who authorized the work, Dennis said "I didn't say that you did", so my husband again asked him why he didn't call her father and his answer way "it doesn't work that way" so then my husband asked "who authorized the work if I didn't and you NEVER called anyone"? Dennis answered with "we're done here" and hung up on him.

So for a tow less that was 7.2 miles, a battery, and to clean spark plugs, it was over $400 worth of work when he had absolute no permission to work on the car from anyone AND was STILL working on it when we called Rollie's to find out the status. The car is a 2007 that has over 115k miles on it and I feel that WE as the CUSTOMER should have had an option as to what repairs, if any, we wanted on the car. We would have had to sign the cat over to him if we didn't have the money to pay for it. This is terrible business practice and being they paid for it in cash as he wouldn't accept any other form of payment from them, we have no recourse.
